The first annual Empty Bowls luncheon was a success. Thank you to everyone who attended!

By filling up the community’s cups, a Hastings group is making sure young kids in need get filled up on the weekends.

Enjoy delicious soup and learn more about Food4Thought and their mission to provide supplemental food to elementary aged children in the Hastings community.

These “empty bowls” are a reminder of the many bowls we have filled and the bowls we still need to fill to help Hastings elementary school children who are experiencing food insecurity.

The Empty Bowls event raises money and awareness for Food4Thought, a local nonprofit food assistance program, that sends meals home over the weekend with Hastings Public elementary school students. Though these children receive meals through the school during the week, they may not have sufficient access to meals over the weekend. With your donations and the support from Food4Thought, we can make sure these students have something to eat before returning to school on Monday morning!

So, why are we helping Food4Thought?

Food insecurity has a profound impact on students in our schools and Food4Thought helps alleviate those concerns.

We recently talked with Jeff Schneider, Superintendent of Hastings Public Schools, to find out what impact a program like this has on students.

"We get to send many of our students home for the weekend with food supplies that help reduce some of their stress because they know that there will be something to eat to get them through the weekend. When students are taken care of over the weekend they show up on Monday morning ready to learn and ready to participate which has a huge impact on their performance. We are so thankful for our community partners such as Food4Thought, without them there would be so many students facing a severe food insecurity issue."
