Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry using volunteer labor and financed through private donations. Our purpose is to help families obtain decent housing that could not otherwise afford a home.
Applications are available at Head Start (123 N. Marian Rd).
Contact Ammie Joyce (402-462-4187, ext. 162) if you have any questions!
To qualify for a Hastings Area Habitat for Humanity home:
You must have a housing need. For example, overcrowding, poor heating, unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
You need to have lived in the Hastings area for one year.
You need to be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
You need to have a family income in the low to moderate range, and not be able to qualify for a conventional home loan.
With your permission, we will verify employment and income, verifying checking/savings account balances, obtain a statement from your landlord, obtain a credit report, and ask for 3 references.
If you are approved for a Habitat home, you are required to attend a Dave Ramsey Budgeting series or an approved budgeting class online or one provided by the Selection Committee. You will also be required to participate in a class on maintenance.
If you are approved for a Habitat home, we require that your family put in 300 βsweat equityβ hours towards the construction of your home. The βsweat equityβ hours can be in the form of helping with skilled or unskilled labor (painting, clean up).
If approved for a Habitat home a down payment of $500 is required upon selection, $150 a month during construction which goes towards closing costs.
