We will be collecting market-generated food waste, i.e. incidental bits of food, napkins, greasy pizza cardboards, etc., for composting at the Farmer's Market this weekend—and hopefully every weekend this season.

In addition, the Conservation Commission will have compostable bin liners and a small number of tote kits for sale at the Farmer's Market this weekend, and hopefully every weekend. You can also buy these items at the Community Center.

Household food scraps: please deliver these to our collection at the DPW yard site, 12 Southside Avenue. We are only collecting freshly-generated food waste at the market.

Thanks!

Any questions? About anything?? Contact us! We're eager to make sure this program works for everyone.

This message provided by Hastings resident Lyz Perry:
🌲🌲Hello Hastings — You might be aware that Con Ed (via Asplundh) is doing tree work around the village. Trees that have pink/orange tape tied around them are ones that Con Ed would like to remove completely, but they need permission in order to do so—from private property owners in the case of ones on private property and from the village in the case of ones on village-owned property or right of ways. If a tree was tied on your property, you should have been contacted by Con Ed directly to get permission (or not) to remove the tree. They need your written permission in order to do so.

*If you have any questions about trees that are tied on your property or in your neighborhood, on village property or right of ways near or adjacent to your property or in your neighborhood, or elsewhere around the village, call Con Ed or Hastings’ Department of Public Works.*

And also —

🌲Remember to protect and maintain the health of the trees on your property and in your neighborhood!

🌲Plant more native trees, Hastings! And protect them as they grow. Oak, beech, tulip, birch, pine, and maple to name a few.

Trees, especially now, need our help to survive, thrive, and multiply!

Also, anyone, feel free to pass this info on to your neighbors and post in other Hastings facebook groups.

The Conservation Commission invites you to drop off your food scraps this winter at the train station parking lot every Saturday 8am-5pm!

Isn't it smelly and complicated? No! Setting up a system is easy, and we make it even easier by offering a food scrap tote kit at wholesale cost ($20) through the Town of Greenburgh. Most people find it fantastic to separate their food scraps with this odor-trapping system, as they eliminate raccoons in their trash and end up producing much less garbage. ALL organic food matter can go in, raw or cooked: meats, bones, moldy leftover lasagna, fresh fruit and vegetables, coffee grounds and filters, paper towels and popsicle sticks, bones and shells

To participate, please register by emailing [email protected] (even if you were composting with us this summer). If you need a tote kit, say so in your email. For exact location and other details, please click here.

We are collecting your food scraps every Saturday 8:30-1:30 at the Train Station Parking Lot.

We are collecting your food scraps every Saturday 8:30-1:30 at the Train Station Parking Lot.

Organic waste from kitchens accounts for approximately 1/3 of municipal solid waste & it is often the heaviest stuff we throw out (not to mention the stinkiest).
