Ever wonder what it’s like to see a real sled dog team in action? Our amazing alumni and volunteers bring the excitement and spirit of mushing to communities all across Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin — from schools to park districts and local organizations.

Each demonstration is not only fun and educational, but it’s also a way for our sled team members — all Free Spirit alumni — to give back to the rescue that saved them. Every event helps us raise money to pay it forward to the next huskies in need. ❤️🐺

🐾 Alumni Alert: Wolfie Needs Our Help! 🐾

Three years ago, Wolfie—a beautiful 6½-year-old Husky/American Eskimo—found his forever home with a mom who adores him. Sadly, Wolfie is now facing a serious health challenge with his back right leg. Initial X-rays show it could be osteomyelitis or neoplasia, and he urgently needs a CT scan or sedated X-rays to find answers.

His specialist appointment is set for October 13, 2025, but the diagnostic tests alone are estimated at $1,500–$2,500+. Wolfie’s mom, a widow living on Social Security, is recovering from her own knee replacement surgery and simply can’t cover these unexpected costs.

We lost one of our members recently. She will furever be missed at our sled demos but may she wear her silver harness with pride. 💔

🌈 **Remembering Ruby** 🐾

We are deeply saddened to share that Ruby, one of our cherished Free Spirit alumni, has crossed the Rainbow Bridge at the remarkable age of 14. 💔

Ruby was more than just a beloved family member—she was a proud ambassador for Free Spirit and a shining face of our sled team. With strength, grace, and heart, she helped represent the rescue at countless events, making friends and fans wherever she went. Though she had been retired for some time, Ruby still loved getting out to meet new people and enjoy the world with her family by her side.

Sadly, she had recently been struggling with a neurological issue—likely a tumor—that was affecting her mobility. Her family made the difficult decision to let her go with peace and dignity, surrounded by love.

Ruby was the true leader of her pack, and her absence has left an enormous hole in the hearts of those who loved her. We hope she’s now running free, reunited with her beloved packmate Payton, and that the two of them are exploring the Rainbow Bridge together, side by side once more.

Run free, sweet Ruby. You were truly one of a kind, and your spirit will forever be part of the Free Spirit family. 💙🐾

Welcome to our online auction to benefit the homeless huskies at Free Spirit Siberian Rescue!
The is an ONLINE fundraiser so there is NO physical auction to attend. You can do all your bidding from the comfort of your home!
Starts JUNE 13th [8am CST] and ends JUNE 23rd [8pm CST]
All proceeds from this auction will be used to help cover the expenses for the care of all the homeless huskies currently at Free Spirit Siberian Rescue.

RULES AND GUIDELINES
1) PLEASE NOTE: this is a charity auction. Your generosity, participation and competitive bidding is encouraged throughout the auction!
2) ALL bids MUST be posted with an email address (feel free to email us at [email protected] if you don’t want it shown on our page or send us a DM via Facebook)
3) Bids are by whole US dollar only.
4) NO bid retractions or deleting of bids or comments during the auction at any time
5) Please do not bid if you do not plan to follow the auction. If you bid please pay attention to tags and comments on your items during your own time. We will do our best to comment on who the highest bidder is.
6) Payment is expected for item/s within 48 hours of the auction ending! Consider the item yours unless you are out bid.
7) If the highest bidder does not pay, the next highest bidder will be offered the item.
8) Items will only be shipped to the US, no international shipping.
9) If you have ANY questions about an item, please feel free to message us on our page before placing a bid.
10) ALL payments can be made via paypal, venmo or other debit/credit cards! An email invoice will be sent with payment instructions after the auction is closed. Please do not pay until instructed to do so!

We had the pleasure of bringing our dogs to the Trinity Lutheran - DeKalb ( IL) Vacation Bible School this morning. Many of the young participants had seen our kids at DeKalb's Lincoln Elementary, and since their theme was "True North", decided to ask if we could appear. The kids, human & canine, seemed to love the morning. Thanks to everyone involved, we thoroughly enjoyed showcasing our dogs!
