HYDRA of Hart County, Inc.

HYDRA of Hart County, Inc. HYDRA is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the growth and learning of our youth.

HYDRA of Hart County was formed in 1988 out of The Troubled Children’s Committee for Hart County, with the goal of creating programming for bridge the gaps in services for Hart County’s youth. For 25 years, HYDRA has ameliorated that goal with innovative programs and various youth projects. HYDRA serves approximately 900 youth each year and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We receive

funding from the City of Hartwell, Business Partnerships, Private Foundation Grants, local business sponsorships, and charitable donations. HYDRA employs a full time Program Director who coordinates community volunteers. We are a collaborative partner with other youth serving agencies and non-profits including, Hart Partners, Hart County Interagency Council, and The Community Partnerships for Protecting Children. HYDRA’s involvement in these harmonious efforts helps to ensure that families in need of services are offered the best and al possible resources. HYDRA reports effectively to all funding sources and
completes a financial audit annually.

We just started week 3 of Summer Camp and already have driven about 300 miles between the library, the new rec park and one trip to Athens! Oftentimes it's because we are making multiple trips back and forth to pick up and drop off at the park or the library.

We are in the market to add another van to our HYDRA family! Since we strive to be community oriented we thought we'd ask our community if they know of a van out there that would like to park itself at HYDRA from now on! Perhaps a church has outgrown or is upgrading their vehicles this summer and would like to make a donation to HYDRA?

We've grown so much that two vans would make life oh that much easier and free up our wait list that has already started at North Hart for After School too!

We had a busy week for week 2!
We are so blessed with all the community connections we have that Ms Pam with the Hart County Library created our own Storytime and crafts on Mondays, we took a field trip to Sandy Creek Nature Preserve, visited the BookMobile, Learned about the Asian Gardens and Moon House at our Botanical Garden from Maggie Jackson, tried eating with chopsticks, watched how sushi is made and tried Mochi! The boys went fishing on Friday and some of the girls helped with the chair exercise class at the Senior Center too!!
We also did some Cherry Blossom Tree art and a Japan worksheet coloring contest as well as watched a few Japanese inspired movies.

In the works for September will be a kids sidewalk chalk coloring contest fundraiser hosted on the patio at Common Ground Hartwell Why?? Because some of these kids are super talented at this and I know there are others in the community that are too and it would be so cool to see everyone's creativity!
