What an exciting weekend at the Special Olympics North America Pickleball Championship Tournament. π Athletes, Unified Partners, and Coaches from across the United States gathered to compete for the gold. Special Olympics - South Carolina Area 2 - traveled to Hilton Head Island, SC, thanks to the generous support of Alexandra Ruby and LowCoast - 'LowCo' Pickleball Club. Sponsors, fundraisers, and volunteers play a vital role in our ongoing efforts to provide Pickleball programs for individuals with disabilities. This experience enabled 15-year-old Julianna Mysayphonh to compete at Level 3 and bring home the silver medal. Julianna's participation not only yielded a medal but also fostered new friendships and significantly boosted her confidence. Her father, who served as her Unified Partner, was able to share in this magical experience. Athlete Daniel Cooper, 58, also attended and competed at Level 4. Daniel's long-held dream was to bring home a medal from SONA PICKLEBALL, a goal he had been working towards for the past two years. Having attended the previous year's event at Level 4 and secured a fourth-place ribbon, Daniel dedicated himself to intense training and showcased his improved skills, earning praise from his Coach. Winning the Silver medal not only fulfilled a lifelong ambition but also demonstrated the value of perseverance and hard work. Daniel's Unified Partner, Nathan Severance, stepped in as an alternate replacement for Elvis Kisonas, who was injured. Nathan proved to be an exceptional Unified Partner, radiating positivity throughout the event. Coach Jessica White did an outstanding job preparing her athletes. We eagerly anticipate their future performances at the Palmetto Dunes Pickleball courts. Special Olympics -South Carolina Area 2- LowCoast - "LowCo" Pickleball Club
