What would make more young people choose to build their future in Hartsville?

Communities thrive when young people see not just a place to live, but a place to grow. The question isn’t whether young talent exists. It’s whether the environment encourages them to stay (or return) and invest their future in Hartsville. By continuing to invest in our youth and the things that matter to them, the community can ensure that more young people don’t just pass through, but choose to stay, return, and lead.

Recently we asked, Which social needs in our community do you feel could benefit from greater support at this time? While resources and caring organizations exist in Hartsville, many families still face barriers to stability. Here are a few themes that consistently topped the list:

🏠 Housing Instability
🧠 Access to Mental Health Services
👶 Affordable and Quality Childcare
🥗 Food Insecurity

What we also heard clearly is that social challenges rarely stand alone and are deeply interconnected.

What does a thriving Hartsville look like in 5 years?

When we asked our community, we heard a shared vision: nonprofits working collaboratively to create lasting stability, businesses growing with a strong workforce, neighborhoods that are safe and connected, and young people who see real opportunity here at home.

Though perspectives differ, the common thread is clear: Thriving takes partnership, thoughtful investment, and shared responsibility. Thriving is not accidental. It is intentional.

We’re committed to listening and investing with insight.
