šŸ“Charleston, SC (foster)

This 45 lb, Treeing Walker Coonhound is nearly 2 years old, fully vetted, loves kids and thinks every dog is a potential best friend. Cats and small critters? Well, she’s a hunting breed, so she’d rather admire them from a distance. šŸ˜…

Thanks to her amazing foster mom, Mango has almost mastered indoor living, does great in a kennel and is rocking her potty training with consistency and routine.

Spoiler Alertā€¼ļø
She’s currently working on her autobiography, From Shelter Dog to Spoiled House Hound. The final chapter is missing though and it’s called ā€œMy Forever Home.ā€ ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

Formerly introducing Roxie! 🐾

šŸ“Hartsville, SC (foster)

Roxie is proof that the best things come in small, fluffy packages. This 16 pound miniature poodle was born on 3/27/21 and is fully vetted and ready to find her true forever family!

Roxie was born with a birth defect in her back left paw and only has one toe on that foot, but don’t tell her that she’s any different. It causes her absolutely no pain or limitations and honestly just adds to her charm! She runs, plays, chases balls with her dog friends, and keeps up just fine.

She’s dog friendly and has really blossomed with decompression time in foster care. Roxie enjoys playing with other dogs and especially loves chasing after toys with her foster siblings. She can occasionally resource guard her person’s attention if another dog interrupts cuddle time, but her foster has been working with her and she’s already making great progress. Like any dog she responds well to boundaries and structure.

Roxie absolutely adores people and has never met a stranger. She wants to be close to her humans as much as possible and fully believes she deserves to be spoiled around the clock. She does not love being kenneled when she can see you, and she can be vocal when she’s ready to come out, but settles much better when she has quiet space and has learned to happily go into her kennel for treats. She is also house trained with no accidents in the home or kennel.

This girl LOVES food, enjoys playing, and has a fun little personality that keeps everyone smiling. She would do best with an adopter who understands poodles require lifelong regular grooming and is committed to keeping her coat maintained.

If you’re looking for a small dog with a big personality, lots of love to give, and a little extra character, Roxie may be your perfect match!

National Rescue Dog Day but make it Mango šŸŠ

Today this good girl spent the day working the crowd , showing off her hound nose and soaking up all the love with her amazing foster mom. Safe to say she understood the assignment!

Mango is a little over a year old, a gorgeous Treeing Walker Coonhound weighing 45 lbs. She’s dog friendly with pups of all sizes, loves people and is especially sweet with kids!

Somehow she’s still looking for a family that understands the breed and will continue the structure, routine, mental enrichment, and exercise that’s helped her become the incredible dog she is today.

šŸ“£ It’s $5 Friday, a day rescues everywhere rally together to ask for the support that keeps us going.

AND this week, we need you too.

We welcomed three new faces into rescue, all very different, but all equally deserving of a chance.

First was Roxie, an owner surrender to who came to us severely matted. Once she was groomed, we discovered she was missing all but one toe on her back left paw. She has already required more veterinary care than we anticipated, but we are committed to making sure she gets everything she needs.

Next came Tinker, a 14 year old chihuahua our friends asked us to help with. She is underweight, missing most of her hair, and has clearly experienced significant neglect recently. We had foster placement available, and there was no way we could say no to her.

Last is Tyson, a 6 month old Lab/Great Dane mix who was surrendered locally and has been on our radar for a while. He’s now a Misfit and scheduled to be neutered Monday.

These dogs all came to us within days of each other, and while we are trying to ease back into intake, emergencies and urgent needs continue to find us.

Right now, we need help covering both our current and upcoming medical expenses so we can continue saying yes when it matters most.

We are so grateful for the support shown on Roxie’s recent post, but the reality is we still need help. They need help.

If you can spare even $5 today, it truly makes a difference for dogs like Roxie, Tinker, and Tyson. ā¤ļø

This week we welcomed Roxie, a 5 year old poodle mix who was surrendered to one of our county shelters and we took her in.

When Roxie arrived, she was extremely matted and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, the condition of her coat was so severe that she had to be completely shaved down during her groom.

Once all the matting was removed, we noticed something was wrong with her left foot. Roxie only has one toe on her left paw. At this time, we aren’t sure if she was born this way or if this developed over time, potentially worsened by her severe matting.

Roxie will be seen by our vet today for a full assessment so we can better understand what is going on with her paw and determine the next steps for her care.

āž”ļø We know times are hard and we’ve tried not to ask for much lately, but we could really use your support for Roxie’s medical care.

āž”ļø If you would like to help, donations can be sent using the options listed below. Every dollar helps us continue saying yes to dogs like Roxie.

Reposting Jethro because we truly cannot believe this boy is still waiting!

šŸ“Columbia, SC (Foster)

Jethro came to us from where he was the certified ā€œdog testerā€ and all around good boy. Since entering rescue, his fosters have worked hard to show him what life in a home is all about and have truly set him up for success.

We can now confidently say Jethro loves other dogs and people. Cats, however, are not his thing!

He is fully potty trained, amazing in his crate, and has settled beautifully into his new normal!

At only 45 lbs and around 2 years old, Jethro is the perfect medium sized mixed breed with so much love to give. He’s lower energy when hanging out with his people but loves to play and ramp it up with his dog friends. He’s truly just a happy guy who enjoys being around everyone!

Jethro has done everything asked of him. Now it’s his turn to find his people and finally get the forever home he deserves.

Dog moms are absolutely real moms around here. As we celebrate Mother’s Day today, we want to give a huge shoutout to our incredible foster moms!

So many of them balance their own pets, families, jobs, and the everyday demands of life, yet they still make time to help us save lives by opening their homes and hearts to a Misfit in need. Their compassion, patience, and dedication make all the difference for these animals!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of our superstar fosters and every dog mom out there. We appreciate you more than words can say! šŸ¾šŸ’•

Today is a big day, it’s Patty’s official adoption day! After nearly 8 months in rescue, she finally found her perfect fit!

Patty didn’t wait because of a lack of interest. She had multiple applications, but we stayed committed to finding the right match for her needs. A beautiful German Shepherd is still a working breed that requires structure, enrichment, and understanding to truly thrive.

We are so appreciative of her adopters, for truly seeing Patty, and especially grateful for her foster , who signed up for the long haul and gave her the time, patience, and love she deserved.

We never know how long a dog may stay in rescue, but our goal has never been a fast turnaround. It has always been about creating the best possible match for both the dog and the adopter. Rescue is about advocacy, commitment, and giving these dogs the best chance at lasting success after all the work that goes into their care, vetting, training, and fostering.

It is not always a perfect science, but we always try our best for everyone involved. Thank you to every person who helped Patty along the way and made this happy ending possible. We are so excited for her next chapter!
