Trent Hill Center for Children & Families

Trent Hill Center for Children & Families Providing a safe home for youth in foster care & homeless young adults.

The Trent Hill Center for Children & Families is a home for youth who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, and abandonment, or are experiencing homelessness. The Center provides a safe and supportive space where children’s developmental, physical, emotional, social, educational, intellectual, and spiritual needs can be met. In addition to the residential care we provide, the C

enter also functions as a community-based mental health counseling center. We provide individual, group, and family counseling services to children and families and offer the option of participating either in-person or via telehealth. Using a trauma-informed model of care, the Center works in partnership with families on-site to develop a family-centered plan for reunification; teach parenting, communication, and life management skills; counsel children and family members; and offer case management, advocacy, and information and referral services to ensure that the families’ social, psychological, intellectual, financial, and other needs are met in preparation for reunification. The Trent Hill Center for Children and Families is a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 child and family services organization that is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation.

Summer is off to a terrific start at Trent Hill Center!☀️

Recently, our youth and young adults enjoyed a day of exploration, learning, and fun in Wilmington, North Carolina.

The group kicked off the trip with lunch downtown before boarding a riverboat sightseeing tour to learn about Wilmington’s history and waterfront. They spent time exploring local shops and wrapped up the day with a visit to battleshipnc, where history came to life in a meaningful way.

During their tour, youth and young adults learned about the important contributions women and servicemembers of color made during World War II. One young adult was especially interested in learning about the women welders who helped build and support the war effort as she pursues her certificate in welding.

As with other trips our youth have been able to experience thanks to a generous donor, it’s more than just seeing new places. These trips allow our youth to connect classroom lessons to real life, explore careers and history, and gain a broader understanding of the people who shaped our nation.

Here’s to a summer filled with adventure, discovery, and growth! ❤️

Last night, a youth in our care lost a tooth, and this morning he woke up to discover that the Tooth Fairy had paid a visit! 🧚🏼

It’s a small moment that many kids might take for granted, but for youth in foster care, these simple childhood memories can be extra memorable amidst uncertainty and change.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, youth at Trent Hill Center get to still experience the joys of being kids. From celebrating birthdays and holidays to visits from the Tooth Fairy, your support helps create stability, comfort, and the moments that make growing up special. ❤️

When we shared a need for luggage for youth in our care, our friends at Trinity Methodist Church immediately stepped up!

Many times youth in foster care carry their whole life from place to place in trash bags. The suitcases and bags that line this hallway will provide not just reliable place to carry their belongings, but dignity, comfort, and a sense of worth to youth.

Trinity Methodist Church has been a longstanding partner of Trent Hill Center. Their congregation consistently finds ways to support the youth and young adults across all of our programs from responding to urgent needs, providing meals, and letting us use their space for Day Services.

Thank you for the difference you’re making in the lives of youth in foster care. ❤️

This week, we are celebrating THREE Trent Hill Center youth who earned their high school diplomas! 🎓

For most teens, graduation is an expected part of growing up. For teens in foster care, only 2 out of every 5 reach this milestone. That makes the accomplishments of these three graduates even more remarkable.

From multiple school changes, family instability, trauma, uncertainty, and countless obstacles along the way, these teens have beat the odds stacked against them.

We are SO proud. Please join us in congratulating our graduates and wishing them success as they begin their next chapters. ❤️

This National Foster Care Month, we’re especially grateful for community partners like Carolina's Kids, Inc.

Recently, a new resident arrived at Trent Hill Center with just one bag of belongings. Thanks to Carolina’s Kids, he was able to visit their clothing closet and pick out much-needed clothes of his own.

What makes this partnership so meaningful is that youth in all of our programs are given the opportunity to choose items they actually like. For young people in foster care, who so often have little control over major decisions in their lives, that choice matters more than most realize.

Something as simple as picking out their own clothes can help restore confidence, dignity, and a sense of normalcy.

Thank you, Carolina’s Kids, for all you provide for youth across our community. ❤️

We are honored to have received a proclamation from Mayor Askins and City of Hartsville, SC, Government recognizing May as National Foster Care Month.

The proclamation was presented during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting and serves as a meaningful reminder that supporting youth in foster care is truly a community effort.

At Trent Hill Center, we are especially proud to recognize our incredible staff (just a handful are pictured here). Day in and day out, they show up with compassion, patience, dedication, and unwavering support for the youth in our programs.

Whether helping with schoolwork, celebrating milestones, providing comfort during difficult moments, or simply creating a sense of home, our team makes a lasting impact in the lives of the youth in our care.

We are grateful to our entire community for recognizing the importance of the work we do. Thank you for standing alongside us. ❤️

If you drove by our Group Home this afternoon, you may have noticed some new bright colors outside! 🌼

Jojo, one of our Independent Living Program participants, volunteered to design and plant our flower beds.

Thank you, JoJo! It’s beautiful!

It’s touches like these that really make this house feel like a home for our youth. ❤️

Thank you to everyone that helped fill this table with not just supplies, but with love, support, and care for the youth we serve. ❤️

During this National Foster Care Month, we’re reminded that meaningful support often looks like everyday essentials: clean clothes, hygiene products, laundry detergent, bedding, snacks, and comfort items that help youth feel safe, valued, and cared for.

These donations will help us continue creating spaces filled with dignity, comfort, and feel like home.

If you’d like to also support our youth, our wishlist is always stocked with needed items: https://t.ly/eoaU4.

Another big milestone moment happened at Trent Hill Center this past week!

One of our Independent Living Program participants just purchased her very first car, and we couldn’t be more proud.

Since moving into Trent Hill Center’s ILP Program in December, she has been balancing school, working consistently, and putting in the effort every day to grow through our life skills curriculum. You may remember that she completed the auto upkeep and maintenance section in February.

A car isn’t just a big purchase, it’s access to opportunity. It’s getting to work, getting to class, and continuing to build a bright future.

Way to go, Gretchen! Please join us in congratulating her! 👏

This is a sight that recently stopped us in our tracks as one of our youth prepared to leave the APCC.

Their belongings were carefully packed, not in trash bags like when they arrived, but in real duffle bags and durable storage bags—something that says they matter.

When this young person first came to us, everything they owned fit into two trash bags. Unfortunately, that’s a reality for so many youth in foster care.

You can help us make this picture the norm, not the exception. We like to keep bags like these on hand so every young person who walks through our doors, and eventually walks out, can do so with dignity.

Shop our Amazon Wishlist to help us stock up on luggage and duffle bags: https://t.ly/eoaU4

No person should have to carry their life in a trash bag. ❤️
