Your Hartly and Marydel Volunteers spent the day at Hartly Elementary, teaching fire prevention and safety. We had so much fun with the kiddos in our district with stop, drop, and roll, sprayed the hose, met Sparky and toured the fire truck and ambulance. We also talked about knowing 2 ways out and have a meeting place should there be a fire.

Hartly Volunteer Fire Company is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Gloria “Mama Gloria” Saatman on October 1. Gloria was a devoted 58 year member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company and a beloved presence in the kitchen during countless company functions. She dedicated many hours to ensuring the fire company had everything needed for each event and that the kitchen was always prepared for the next.

Affectionately known as “Mama Gloria,” she provided comfort, encouragement, and unwavering support to our members and was always willing to help wherever she could. Throughout her 58 years of service to the community, Gloria held numerous roles, including Treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary, Kitchen Chairman, Sunshine Chairman, and active member of the Membership, Fundraising, and Purchasing committees. She also contributed her time and talents to committees within the LADVFA and DelMarVa associations.

Gloria’s commitment and service were recognized through many honors, including Auxiliary Member of the Year, Chairperson of the Year, the LADVFA Hall of Recognition, and the LADFA Hall of Honor.

Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family and the members of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company. Service arrangements have not yet been finalized and will be shared at a later date. Please keep the Saatman family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
