Big thank you to the Hartland Winter Trails enthusiast who generously donated a new dog waste station, now located at our main trailhead. It is wonderful when someone hears about or sees a problem, quickly comes up with a solution, and follows through by ordering and paying for it all. Thank you very much!

– Andrea, Volunteer Executive Director of HWT

Some photos from this year’s Tiki Torch Trek—it was a perfect evening and wonderful event. We were thrilled to see so many kids on skis and snowshoes and hear from many who shared that they were out on XC skis this winter after 20+ years of not skiing!

Thank you very much to all of the volunteers who made this possible, especially our Special Events Director, Kandy, who carries the proverbial torch every year to make this special event happen.

If you joined us this year, we’d love to hear in a comment or message what you enjoyed and find most important about the event. Bringing winter enjoyment to the community is what we are here for and we love hearing your feedback and stories!

Just a few more days until the Tiki Torch Trek, one of our favorite events of the year! Join us this Saturday, Feb 14 from 3:30-8:30pm at the main trailhead at 50 Vermont Route 12 in Hartland. Bring your valentine, family, and friends to enjoy 1.5+ kilometers of groomed nordic trails lit by tiki torches, a community bonfire, kids games, music, and an Olympic celebration. This year's event is FREE to attend thanks to generous sponsorship from Mascoma Bank.

Holly from The Upper Valley Land Trust will also be leading two biodiversity explorations: a brisk and fun-paced ski trip from 3:00-3:45 pm and a steady hike on snowshoes from 4:00-4:45 pm. Both will include a visit to the largest black birch tree in the nation! If you're interested in joining these trips, learn more and register to join here: https://uvlt.org/event/noticing-nature-winter-biodiversity-exploration-on-skis/

And finally, a big thank you to our event sponsors: Mascoma Bank, Omer and Bob's, Harpoon Brewery Taproom and Beer Garden, 3 Corners Market, and The Upper Valley Land Trust for helping us make this fun community event possible. We can't wait to see you on Saturday!

Trail Grooming and Snow Conditions
31 January 2026

It's really great out there! All trails were re-groomed on Friday afternoon and evening with classical tracks on one side, and a flat deck on the other side for snowshoers. The tracks should be firm after sitting all night — definitely not mushy. Weekend daytime temperatures are forecast to be well below normal, so dress warmly in layers and take a snack with you.

The moon is nearing the full phase this weekend, so, with the cold, clear nights, there may be opportunities for the sublime experience of moonlight skiing or snowshoeing. There's often enough light from the moon to ski with confidence, but bring a headlamp — just in case. Being on the trail on a chilly, moonlight night is a rare and magical experience. Give it a try!

Your grooming team hopes to see you out there enjoying the great, midwinter conditions.

Trail Grooming Update

We received a foot of beautiful powder in the storm that ended yesterday. All trails were compacted with the roller early yesterday morning, then nordic tracks and smoothing were done late yesterday afternoon and evening with the Tidd Tech groomer. All trails should be in great condition for the foreseeable future. Air temperatures are forecast to remain well below freezing, which will preserve the precious powder.

Plans now are to refresh all grooming on Friday, to be ready for the weekend. Given the conditions and weather forecast, it could be a very busy weekend on the Hartland Winter Trails! Everyone has been waiting for this.

We look forward to seeing you on the trails.

Good Morning! Just a quick note about trail grooming... We received several inches of outstanding powder overnight. It is forecast to continue throughout today, Monday. All trails will be rolled (compacted) early this morning. This pass will take several hours. Trails will be rolled again Monday afternoon to compact the latter accumulation. All trails will be groomed with classical tracks and snowshoeing beginning Tuesday morning, and probably extending through the afternoon.

Conditions should be outstanding for the foreseeable future, so get out there and enjoy!

For those parking at the main trailhead across from the Three Corners fire station: please remember to park on the right (east) side of the parking lot, as you drive in. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Folks, A pair of Rossignol purple aluminum XC ski poles with one gray and one black basket went missing — possibly from the Rt 12 parking area across from the Town Garage. If anyone has information about them, please let us know. Thanks!
