A mom who was terrified for her young daughter's safety in taxis has turned that fear into a business built entirely around protecting women and girls.

Amberine Nawaz struggled to reach her 8-year-old daughter by phone while she traveled alone by taxi to a remote area with no signal. That moment pushed her to launch Pink Ladies, a taxi service with all female drivers who prioritize women, children and other vulnerable passengers, and who can turn down rides that fall outside that group.

The cars are painted bright pink so they are easy to spot and recognize, and the service is now expanding due to demand. Nawaz hopes it will also encourage more women to consider becoming drivers themselves.
