Since 1985, Connecticut has lost more than 87,000 acres of farmland to development. When we protect farmland today, we help keep land available for farmers, support clean water and healthy soil, and keep farming possible for future farmers.

Protecting farmland also means caring for the land and natural resources we all depend on. Recycling old electronics is one way we can reduce waste, protect our environment, and help keep our communities healthy.

The Walker Group is hosting its 6th Annual e-Waste Recycling Event on Wednesday, October 14 in Farmington. It's a great opportunity to responsibly dispose of old electronics.

What is the Connecticut Farmland Trust?

If you're new to CFT, welcome! And if you've been following us for a while, here's a quick refresher.

We're a statewide nonprofit dedicated to preserving Connecticut farmland for current and future generations.

Since 2002, we've permanently protected more than 7,700 acres of Connecticut farmland. And that's just the beginning!

We're proud to work alongside farmers, landowners, communities, and partners to help keep agriculture thriving in the state.

Attention farmers! There's still time to apply for this grant opportunity. The first of two rounds ends on Wednesday, October 7. See the link below for details to apply.

Apply Now! The Farm Recovery and Support Block Grant is now accepting applications from Connecticut farmers seeking disaster relief funding to cover losses from severe and unseasonable weather events in 2023 and 2024. Round one will be open until October 7, 2026. Farmers are encouraged to submit their applications through portal.ct.gov/FRS.

A webinar will be held on Thursday, September 17 at noon to answer questions and provide support. Additional resources to aid in completing the application are available on the website. 🌾

Take a few minutes to prepare and stay informed about changing conditions in anticipation of the upcoming storm. Sharing these reminders from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture on storm preparedness and where to report damage.

Stay safe and stay informed as the forecast develops!

🌧️A hybrid nor’easter is expected this weekend, so both farmers and consumers should stay aware of evolving weather conditions. Prepare early, check supplies today, and visit your local farms while the forecast remains favorable. Many orchards and farms are currently open for apple picking and other fall activities, although plans may shift as the weather changes.

⚠️Make sure generators are ready, secure water for household and livestock needs, and use caution when traveling. Never drive through water on roads.

🚜Farmers should report any damages through WebEOC.

🍎🍂Members of the public should verify hours and schedules for farm stands, farmers' markets, festivals and fairs. Some locations may adjust operations for safety over the next few days. Staying informed may help you avoid disruptions and still enjoy seasonal events.
