Hands On Hartford’s three direct service programs provide food, housing, and related support to Hartford’s poorest residents. The Engagement Program connects volunteers to our direct service sites and engages local communities in large scale projects.

We are honored and excited to announce that our friends at Aetna, a CVS Health company, recently gifted us a very generous $25,000 grant to support our kid's weekend Backpack Nutrition Program for the 2026-2027 school year! This is such INCREDIBLE support!

These funds will help us to purchase kid-friendly meals, snacks, shelf-stable milk and fresh produce to support 230 students facing hunger from 7 Hartford schools throughout the school year.

A holiday weekend never goes out of style at Hands On Hartford! We hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day gatherings just as much as we did!

Last week, we were prepared to greet our guests with enough smiles and meals to go around. After serving 357 guests a delicious meal of cheeseburgers, hotdogs, corn, mac & cheese, salad, and cookies, we were reminded the significance of coming together.

Together we shared stories with our guests, took part in musical performances, and even hula hoop contests were had! Leaving everyone full and fulfilled!

We are proud to be a 2026 grant recipient during the program's 20th Anniversary year, thanks to the TD Bank Charitable Foundation! This generous grant will help us advance as housing instability continues to impact communities across the country and right here in Hartford.

This grant will enable us to keep individuals and families safely housed, prevent evictions before they occur, and help families develop long-term stability.

Our chefs and volunteers have been working hard in preparation for our upcoming holiday meal! ✨☀️

Hands On Hartford has been dedicated to expanding community through food access for 57 years! This includes making sure we have a space for our folks to gather and celebrate the holidays.

As holidays approach, hunger amongst our neighbors does not pause. While other places may close to honor celebrations, HOH is dedicated to still serving. Year after year we welcome families, friends, and neighbors to enjoy a meal with us. Music, laughter, and holiday cheer is spread throughout the agency as we open our doors for those who choose to spend their day with us.

Every Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day, and Easter, we are here for YOU! 💛

We were honored to have recently joined our wonderful friends at Gengras School’s Annual Spring Festival and Marathon!

We had a blast enjoying the sunshine, music, and activities. Together, they collected over 170 pounds of food and toiletries for our Backpack & Pantry programs while completing laps to raise vital funds for our work, coming in at over $2,000 of integral financial assistance!

Thank you Gengras for always showing up so generously for our community!

The scope of our Neighborhood Services Department ensures security is a non-negotiable!

Neighborhood Services does more than provide financial assistance when funding is available. We walk alongside participants every step of the way. From connecting individuals and families with community resources to helping complete paperwork and understand next steps, our team is committed to finding solutions.

Even when financial assistance is not possible, we continue working to support participants in meaningful ways, keeping our neighbors housed and thriving.
