The Connecticut Professional Genealogists Council is proud to share that CPGC President Jennifer L. Zinck, CG®, CGL®, AG®, AGL™, has been appointed by Governor Ned Lamont to the Connecticut State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHRAB), for a term extending through June 2029.

SHRAB is the state’s central advisory body for historical records planning, working to preserve and improve access to Connecticut’s documentary heritage, including the very records genealogists rely on every day. Jennifer’s appointment brings a dedicated voice for the genealogical community to that table.

Jennifer holds credentials from both the Board for Certification of Genealogists and the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists, and her research, lecturing, and service have long enriched our council and the wider genealogical community.

Please share these two open positions at NARA for digitizing the Veteran Bounty Land Records files. This is funded by the genealogy community through the Veterans Bounty Land Records Project, part of the Preserving the Pensions initiative. Salary starts at $64,000/year. Two positions. Applications due next week.

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Digitization Division. The Digital Imaging Technician performs duties associated with the digitization and reformatting of original archival records.

URGENT NEWS!

Massachusetts vital records are at risk! MGC is urging genealogists, researchers, and anyone who cares about access to historical records to take action on an important legislative development.

Governor Maura Healey’s supplemental budget proposal (H.5377) contains language in Section 43 that could significantly affect access to Massachusetts vital records. While MGC supports removing the outdated term “out-of-wedlock” from Massachusetts statutes, the proposed language in Section 43 goes further than intended and could create confusion and restrict access to records that researchers rely on.

MGC is asking that Section 43 be amended to a simple, targeted fix that removes only the offensive language without disrupting existing records access law.

What You Can Do:
Contact your Massachusetts state representative, state senator, and the Chairs of the House and Senate Committees on Ways and Means. Ask them to support the MGC’s proposed amendment to Section 43 and to approve Sections 44 and 45 as submitted.

George Washington came to the church while he was in town to plan the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, in the midst of the Revolutionary War.
