Celebrate Mother’s Day with an experience that blends elegance, history, and indulgence at the Phelps-Hatheway House.

Join us for a refined afternoon tea, where you’ll share meaningful moments and create lasting memories in a beautifully historic setting. Delight in a selection of sweets and savories thoughtfully prepared by Chef Renee of Blonde on the Run, paired with an exquisite assortment of Harney & Sons teas.

As you sip and savor, our staff will bring the past to life with captivating stories of the home’s former residents, especially the women who lived here during the Revolutionary War. After tea, wander through our museum interiors or enjoy a peaceful stroll in our lush perennial garden.

This year’s menu honors beloved tea traditions while introducing new gluten-free options to welcome all guests.

Seating is limited to just 20 guests, with a special discount available for members. Reserve your place today:

As our staff and volunteers prepare to welcome a new gardening season, we pause to reflect on those who came before us. A recent discovery in the Phelps-Hatheway garden archives revealed a note from Mary Wells Edwards, who designed the garden plan we continue to steward today. Though brief, her words capture both her spirit and the enduring purpose of caring for a public garden.

In returning payment for her services, Mary also recognized the remarkable dedication of Suffield Garden Club, Inc. chair Doris Leete and the many members who gave, and continue to offer so generously of their time and energy for the benefit of others.

Soon, with clean tools and renewed energy, we will begin again. As we look ahead to the season to come, we do so with gratitude, honoring these extraordinary women whose belief in the power of gardens and landscapes continues to inspire and bring joy to all.
