Francisco Bertolotti Badala (a.k.a. “The Charcoal King”—ask him for details!) from Prof. Curran’s group presented his senior thesis, “Synthesis of a Novel Beta-Sheet Mimetic,” at our final Chemistry Department Seminar of the semester. There was science, card tricks, comedic posters (courtesy our own Prof. Puljung) and an ice cream social!

Our final round of student presentations for the semester was a big one! Peter DiStasio and Justin White from the Gemmel Lab screened for peroxygenases in E. coli that could transform small molecules, Santina Dresser from the Brindle Lab synthesized optically active bisindolylmethanes, and Aprajita Agrawal and Justin Chan from the Hill Lab used X-rays and lasers, respectively, to measure the properties of heterobinuclear photocatalysts.
