Juneteenth is a celebration hard-won and long overdue. It is a day that carries the weight of generations, the joy of a people who refused to let that weight break them, and the enduring truth that justice, however delayed, is worth fighting for. The joy of that day belongs to all of us, and so does its unfinished work.

We carry that work into our clubs, our classrooms, and our community every single day. The young people we serve are the living proof that the future is worth building. Today we honor the past that made them possible and the generations who refused to give up on a better world. Happy Juneteenth🖤❤️💚

This next chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford begins with an extraordinary leader.

We are thrilled to welcome Alise Dixon, as our new President and CEO. Alise’s connection to this movement is as personal as it gets. She began in 2007 as a part-time dance instructor at a Club in Dayton, Ohio, showing up every day for young people the same way Club staff show up here in Hartford. That frontline experience never left her, it grounded everything that came after.

Over the nearly two decades since, she has led organizations through challenge and growth, rebuilt community trust from the ground up, expanded Boys & Girls Clubs of Amarillo from a single site to thirteen locations, shaped a national quality-improvement framework that reached more than 4,800 Clubs across the country, and most recently served as Chief Program Officer at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit, where her work touched the lives of more than 15,000 young people every year.

She has seen what this movement can do when it operates at its best. Now, she is bringing all of that experience, all of that heart, to the city where the movement was born. Hartford has been giving young people a place to belong for more than 165 years. Alise Dixon is ready to carry that legacy forward, and we cannot wait to see what she builds alongside our youth, our families, our staff, and this community.

Welcome to Hartford, Aliseđź’™ We are so excited to have you!

Every musician starts somewhere. For a lot of our members, that somewhere was a room full of uncertainty, a brand new instrument, and a whole lot of heart. By the time they took the stage at the University of Hartford, they had turned all of it into something beautiful.

This spring, our club members poured themselves into guitar and piano sessions, showing up week after week, dedicated to improving with every lesson. Then, performance day arrived. Our young people stood together on one stage, played their hearts out, and filled that room with something that took months to build.

Their families watched, their peers cheered, and every single one of those young musicians got to feel what it means to earn an ovation! We are so proud of you all🙌

Some moments remind us exactly why we do this work. đź’™
to when our SMART Girl of the Year, Briza, stood at center field during the Hartford Athletic Women's match and was recognized for her leadership, determination, and commitment to excellence as a young woman in sports. Watching her receive this recognition was a powerful reminder of what is possible when young people are given opportunities to grow, lead, and shine.

On Monday, June 15, Hartford Athletic will recognize Keitha as the next recipient of the Hartford Community Impact Award—a well-deserved honor for someone who has spent her life investing in others.

Keitha Ingram's story with BGCH began not as an employee, but as a Club kid. Years later, she returned to give back—founding a summer basketball league in memory of her late brother, helping establish a scholarship in his honor, and ultimately dedicating her career to supporting the next generation of young people.

Today, as Director of our South End Club, Keitha works tirelessly to ensure every child who walks through our doors feels safe, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential. Her commitment extends far beyond the Club walls through her volunteerism and service to the broader Hartford community.

Join us in celebrating Keitha and the impact she continues to make every day.

Congratulations, Briza. And thank you, Keitha, for showing our young people what leadership, service, and community truly look like.
