Imagine walking or biking from Bloomfield to Riverside Park without worrying about traffic. That's the vision behind the Hartline, a six-mile, car-free greenway that will connect eight neighborhoods to parks, schools, businesses, and each other, creating new opportunities for recreation, transportation, and community. We've shared the story of Riverlink, the section of the Hartline that will connect people to the Connecticut River. Add Riverlink to the road and rail segments of the Hartline, and it's more than a trail. It's a new way to connect Hartford.

ICYMI: We're thrilled about today's Hartford Courant article by Ken Gosselin about our newest project, Riverlink.

"Over the next 18 months, a recently-selected team of consultants will design the roughly, one-mile “RiverLink” — its centerpiece replacing the existing access from downtown to Riverside Park that now has an appearance often compared to a prison. The plans call for creating gently-sloping ramps on both sides of the pedestrian bridge over the highway, one potentially stepping off at the intersection of Market and Pleasant streets, just down the hill from Dunkin’ Park and the North Crossing mixed-use development. The $2.7 million design project — a partnership of iQuilt, a nonprofit focused at creating a more walkable city, and the city of Hartford — seeks to raise the profile of what could become a key, future point of access to the river. The idea is to not only encourage pedestrian use but everything from bicycles and scooters to wheelchairs."

We can't talk about Riverlink without thanking Congressman John Larson for his tireless support for our work and this project. We can't wait to bring this vision to life with Agency Landscape + Planning, and our partners at the City of Hartford, Clay Arsenal, CT DOT, and Riverfront Recapture.

Thirteen years ago, Marc Colbert of Makerspace CT transformed an old dumpster into this one-of-a-kind bench, giving new life to something that would have otherwise been thrown away. We're thrilled to share some details about Riverlink, one of the transformative Hartford400 projects we're working on. Riverlink will begin on Market Street, rise to bridge I-91, and then descend into Riverfront Recapture's Riverside Park.
