After being diagnosed with Cervical Cancer in 2012, I found that information and support groups were not easily accessible in the Hartford area, not only for myself, but for my caregivers as well. Being completely dependent physically, mentally and emotionally, for the first time in my life on a close circle of family and friends, I was able to trudge through the most difficult time of my life. Al
l the while, I couldn't help but think about how anyone could possibly get through cancer treatment with little or no support. Through my process, I have come across so many people, of all ages, races, religions, demographics, that have been affected by Cervical Cancer in some way, but the general tone amongst all of these people was that they didn't know about CC. They had never heard of it, they thought it affected other people, and most of all there was little or no information or support to help them get through. Which leads me to now being a proud Chapter Leader of the Hartford NCCC. I feel that I have a voice and the determination to get out there and serve the community by helping bring about awareness and that CC IS preventable. It is also my mission to create support groups in local hospitals, cancer centers and other community establishments so that no one has to go through this alone.
