LET US WORSHIP TOGETHER!
*Call to Worship
L: Come and worship the God who is among us.
P: Is God in the hymns?
L: No! Look around you.
P: Is God in the stained-glass windows?
L: No! Look around you.
P: Now we see! God is in each of us!
*Opening Hymn #664 Morning Has Broken
1 Morning has broken like the first morning; blackbird has spoken like the first bird. Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning! Praise for them, springing fresh from the Word!
2 Sweet the rain’s new fall sunlit from heaven, like the first dewfall on the first grass. Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden, sprung in completeness where God’s feet pass.
3 Mine is the sunlight! Mine is the morning, born of the one light Eden saw play! Praise with elation; praise every morning, God’s recreation of the new day!
*Call to Confession
L: Let us confess to God and before one another our sins and especially the times we fail to discern your presence among us in the lives of those around us.
*Prayer of Confession
P: We confess to you, O God, and before one another that we have sinned. We have forgotten that you created humans in your image, and we have ignored the stories of creation that tell us we are all one family. We want sensational worship and warm, fuzzy feelings as signs that you are among us. We still look for you in the signs of power and miracles. We overlook your constant presence in the people around us. Forgive us and open our eyes and our hearts to find you in one another.
*Assurance of Pardon
L: God is the always-present one who welcomes our willingness to discover the divine love that surrounds us. God’s love and forgiveness are ours.
*Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.
Scripture Reading Matthew 9:35-10:8
Message
Hymn #418 Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling
1 Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me. See, on the portals he’s waiting and watching, watching for you and for me. “Come home, come home! You who are weary, come home.” Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, “O sinner, come home!”
2 Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading, pleading for you and for me? Why should we linger and heed not his mercies, mercies for you and for me? “Come home, come home! You who are weary, come home.” Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, “O sinner, come home!”
3 O for the wonderful love he has promised, promised for you and for me! Though we have sinned, he has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me. “Come home, come home! You who are weary, come home.” Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, “O sinner, come home!”
Tithes and Offerings
*Doxology
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise
Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! Amen.
*Prayer of Dedication
P: Lord, you are the giver of every good gift. Accept these offerings we pray, that through them we may do justice, and love kindness, and walk humbly with you, our Sovereign and our God. Amen.
Prayers of the People
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come; thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our sins, as we
forgive those who have sinned against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from
evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
Communion
Closing Hymn #450 Be Thou My Vision
1 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art; thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
2 Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true Word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou my soul’s shelter, and thou my high tower; raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.
3 Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise; thou mine inheritance, now and always; thou and thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art.
*Benediction
You go nowhere by accident. Wherever you go, God is sending you. Wherever you are, God has put you there. God has a purpose in your being there. Christ lives in you and has something to do through you wherever you are. Believe this and go in the grace, and love, and power of Jesus Christ. Amen.
*Benediction Response Blest Be the Ties That Bind
Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above.
*Postlude
