The violence in Israel and the Gaza strip is horrifying. The loss of life is heartbreaking. The violence here in our communities in response is unreasonable and we stand in solidarity with those who would see an end to it. The Institute for Community Research focuses its work on building and supporting justice. Violence against our Jewish and Muslim neighbors across the globe flies in the face of that work. To change the root causes of inequity, we have to name them and stand against them. When we recognize the full context of people’s lives, we see the impact of history, of geography, and of faith. We support those who stand in their faith, regardless of what that faith is. We support self-determination, and recognize that as a dream as yet unfulfilled for far too many in this world. We ask those who support our work to dream of and work toward ways that research can be used as a tool to build power and justice, and to create understanding, dialogue, and ultimately, peace.

Stop into Semilla Cafe on 10/12 and tell us what you want to see in the new Plan of Conservation and Development!

What is the PoC&D? It's a document put together by the Council of Governments to help municiple bodies make decisions about how they should invest their time, energy, attention, and dollars to make their city the best it can be in this changing climate.

Why do we want to hear from you? Well, you know what your city has, what it needs, and how to make it all work well! CRCOG, the Capital Region Council of Governments, asked for community input on what they need to know for the next PoC&D, so we figured we could help a little with that.

Stop into "Hartford's Living Room", enjoy a cup of some of the finest tea around and *really* good ackee, then tell us what you think! We want to hear from folks who live here!
