Fascinating piece of news I came across: using an Asian Small-Clawed Otter as a search animal to find cadavers in water. Sort of experimental at this juncture, but they've had some successes. The group doing this, Peace River K9 Search & Rescue, is a nonprofit in the Tampa FL area.

Important animal protection legislation that has very recently passed in Manitoba, Canada province, aimed at better regulating pet breeding. Congrats to Animal Justice.ca for advocating for more humane standards for the production & sale of domestic pets.

🎉 Victory! Manitoba has passed Bill 19, taking an important step toward regulating animal breeders after years of little to no oversight.

Animal Justice will keep working to ensure ALL companion animal breeders are included in the law's regulations, including those who breed cats, ferrets, & other animals!

Yay! The Smithsonian National Zoo & Conservation Institute has announced the birth of 6 kits to new mother Mizuno. The babies were born May 11. But the best news is they have again put into place the nest box we**am, where you can watch the babies nurse, snooze, and grow. It's addictive!

Toby is a sable roan about 2 years old. He's a problem child because he needs an experienced home with NO CHILDREN and NO TIMID/ELDERLY ferrets.
He likes to be cuddled but he WILL climb up your pant leg and chomp you. He likes other ferrets but he WILL bully/beat up anyone he can.
We're hoping someone within reasonable driving distance to Hartford, CT may be the special home Toby needs. And yes, you do need to travel here to meet him. There is a $150 adoption fee & interview. He has all his shots & a microchip.
If you might be that home, please apply.
If you live 500 miles away, have never had ferrets, are in school, or have young children, sorry, you are not a suitable home for Toby. Please do not apply anyway and reinforce Shelter Director's low opinion of the human race. :) Thank you!
