FROM THE DESK OF THE TREASURER, ONE MORE THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF THE COMMITTEE: Tom has many written thank-yous for all the amazing people who put in the work to make this World Cup an incredible experience to be part of in the Hartford area. I completely agree with him about the team effort it took to pull off everything we did. It was a herculean effort to make everything go so well.

However, the person who was the driving force, the centerpiece, and the captain for our chapter was Tom Lovkay. He is the reason we were able to get done what we got done. His knowledge, skill, and ability to recruit the help he, and we, needed was remarkable. The amount of time put in, on top of being a dad, a hard worker, and a loving husband, is incredibly admirable. AO Hartford, and Hartford at large, owe him a world of gratitude.

A little personal story: I joined AO Hartford in 2010, during that World Cup, not long after AO Hartford got off the ground. Tom was (maybe) barely old enough to legally be there with us, but somehow still managed to be an important piece of AOH even then. He brought in young, enthusiastic energy, and his friends and family were a big part of our early success. Him becoming president during some of that time was well deserved.

I admired a lot of the dedication Tom had. I also admired his stubbornness, as he and I butted heads once or five times back then, but I also saw a lot of potential at that age, too.

Fast forward 15+ years, and he’s grown remarkably. The maturity, intelligence, and motivation he brings to this chapter are incredible. I have a mountain of respect for Tom and how he’s handled this last year+.

From roadblocks to successes in getting things done, including pivoting to a different venue within 24 hours before one of the biggest games because of weather, it has been incredible, as an elder member of AOH, to see him mature and grow into a true leader, and to bring many of his friends, family, and AO members along for that growth.

I am incredibly proud to call Tom a friend, and proud to have served on AO Hartford’s executive board under his leadership. We cannot thank you enough, Tom, for all that you’ve done over the last year.

💐 Yesterday, we thanked everyone who came out and helped make these World Cup events so special. Today, it’s time to give flowers to those who poured their time, energy, and sweat into making it happen. I’ll admit, I’ve had to condense this caption for hours to make it fit. Love you all so dearly 😘

To Julio — As a Hartford Chamber leader, you were critical in bringing this vision to life. This doesn’t happen without YOU.

To David — our board-voted MVP. You were instrumental in keeping the big screen working and leading all things AV.

To Micah — our VP & City liaison. Your work with our partners made these events possible.

To Brett — our Secretary & captain of good vibes. You kept the tent running smoothly so everyone could enjoy themselves.

To Seth — our Treasurer. You kept our merch, sales, and behind-the-scenes operations perfectly organized.

To Heather & Tim — our social media team. You grew our following, captured the magic, and created viral moments.

To Mike Kane — game day ops lead & heart and soul. You made sure everything happened safely and on schedule.

To Steve Maston — our general. From crowd management to smoke bombs, you were everywhere we needed you.

To Brian — merch designer & transportation hero. From creating gear to moving it all, you made a massive impact.

To Steve Klopp — lead capo. Leading thousands in song is special, and you absolutely crushed it.

To Gibbs — lead drummer. You set the beat and energy that carried every crowd.

To Nolan & Jack — drum line crew. You stepped in alongside Gibbs to keep the energy alive all summer.

To Dorian — former VP. You stepped up wherever needed with no hesitation.

Most importantly, thank you to the families and significant others supporting us behind the scenes. Your time, patience, and sacrifices made it possible to put these events on for our city and chapter.

THANK YOU.
AO Hartford is built by all of us, and this group gave everything to make this World Cup unforgettable. The work doesn’t stop here. If you love this community and want to build what comes next, come join us, volunteer, and help us grow.

Cheers,
Tom

HARTFORD ….. THANK YOU! 🇺🇸

Five USMNT World Cup viewing parties. More than 10,000 guests. One unforgettable month.

From our home on Pratt Street to our new favorite roof in Parkville, you showed up in a way that will never be forgotten. You brought the love, the energy, the belief, and the passion that turned every match day into something special.

But more than anything, you showed what makes Connecticut special. This tournament has brought people from all walks of life together. Families, friends, longtime supporters, new fans, local businesses, and neighbors all united by soccer, by community, and by pride in this country.

Thank you to everyone who came out, helped create our legendary atmosphere, supported our venues and partners, respected our spaces, and even helped us clean up along the way. That matters, and it says everything about this community.

The World Cup run may be over, but what we built together across Hartford is just getting started.

If you were part of these events, we want to see you again. If this was your first time with us, welcome to the family! Follow along, bring a friend, and help us keep building the soccer community our nation deserves. If you felt the passion this summer, don’t let it stop here. JOIN AO Hartford and help us keep growing the movement right here in CT! We’ll be back in force next summer for the Women’s World Cup.

Thank you, Hartford. We’ll see you again soon!

xoxo,
AO Hartford
