Today we are thrilled to, in partnership with the Darien CT Library, Stamford CT Senior Center and Darien Public High School launch the first cohort of the LINK Initiative.

Students learning Spanish will participate in a three month engagement project with seniors from the senior center to support their learning of the Spanish language. The seniors will share lived experiences, cultural history, and expose students to spoken languages from several Latin American countries.

One other goal is for the students and seniors to form meaningful, supportive, and transformative relationships.

Humans of Hartford Replay ✌🏽

β€œIt’s been about 15 years since I removed myself from that lifestyle of violence. In order to moderate my emotions today, I purposely disconnect from anything associated with negativity, and I’m always laughing and looking for positive outlets.
I’ve also been working hard to give back and create a positive outlet to help counter the violence in our community. I started an organization called The Peace Center of Connecticut, which serves as a resource to help prevent violent incidents from happening again, and to find solutions to current acts of violence. We’re not a direct service provider, but we work to bring different agencies together and help organize the proper resources so repeated violence can hopefully be prevented in the future.”

β€œThank you, Iran. One last thing: what advice would you give a young person in Hartford living the same lifestyle you used to?”

β€œIt’s extremely difficult for someone in that situation to listen to advice. If possible, take a seat and look at what’s at your disposal around you. What opportunities are you missing out on? A lot of times we get to a very damaged place that we fail to listen to others.”

This the story of Iran, a Hartford native and former gang member who escaped his violent lifestyle and started the Peace Center of Connecticut, Inc, a center that's goal is resolved violence and a more peaceful Connecticut.

Until then! We advocate for, we take action for, and we open our hearts, minds & spaces to those who are denied human rights and the dignity of being seen, accepted, included and afforded the rights we all deserve.

Please join us in extending our gratitude to the CREC - Capitol Region Education Council CREC Academy of Computer Science and Engineering High School for including the Peace Center in the App Development Project.

Students from multiple CREC schools worked together to develop apps for organizations that would assist in solving several community challenges and allow for easier access by the community to organizations.

We are honored to have been included and look forward to these young people leading the charge into our brilliant future.

Peace Community. Not sure if you've been made aware but former President Trump was injured in an incident during a rally in Pennsylvania.

Regardless of political view or affiliation let's make sure that WE do not resort to violence to claim victory.

Sending healing mercies to him and anyone afflicted by injury today and every day. ✌🏽
