Van Buren County AC has been steadily receiving donations to keep the shelter stocked, but it has started slowing down. We are reaching out to our community to help re-stock the shelves for the doggos!!!! Below is an Amazon list that ships directly to the shelter. You're also welcome to ship from any store you choose or drop off in person.

Visit us on Thursday 10/30/25 for Howl-o-ween at the shelter. It's treats for all! Kids can come in dressed in costume and pass out bones to our shelter dogs. We provide the bones, the dogs provide the howls (more likely the barks) and score some Halloween candy! Parents - scope out your next adoption while you're here! (You never know 😁)

Things to know and remember:

🐶 The shelter can be noisy with dogs barking. This may scare some younger children.

🐶 No dogs will be brought out of their kennels for visiting during this time. If there is a dog that catches your eye, schedule a visit for later.

🐶 No personal dogs will be allowed into the shelter.

🐶 Sticking hands into the kennels will not be tolerated for safety reasons.

🐶 Visitors will only be allowed within designated areas.

🐶 No outside treats for the dogs will be allowed.

🐶 Children cannot be traded for dogs.

🐶 Parents/Guardians must accompany children at all times.

You can also have things shipped from any place you choose or even drop off in person! If we are closed, there is a large donation bin that's accessible 24/7.

Dimitri has also been at Van Buren County AC since July. We cannot for the life of us figure out why. This guy is such a gentleman!

He is approximately 3 years old and 64 pounds. Dimitri is UTD on vaccines, but he is not neutered.

Take a look at his eyes! Aren't they the coolest eyes ever?!?! His coat is also beautifully colored!

Dimitri is dog selective. Males seem to be a big jo, but a female might be ok. He is unreactive when he sees the shelter cat.

Do you have room in your heart and on your couch for this sweet boy? Dimitri sure hopes you do!

🚨SOS Post 1 of 2🚨

Orion has been at Van Buren County AC in Hartford , MI since July 😭 This sweet guy was brought in with a female dog who has since been rescued (possibly was his mom). All he wants is someone to love him and show him that the world isn't as scary as he thinks it is. He has a good amount of confidence outside, but he is so scared of going into the lobby at the shelter which is, in general, a very laid back, quiet area.

Orion is approximately 2 years old and 75 pounds of love & snuggles all wrapped up into one furbaby! He is not neutered.

He is dog selective. A female might be ok (meet and greet required), but he is NOT fan of males. We are unsure on children, but given how scared he is of being in the lobby, we do believe he could also be unsure of being in a house at first. With that in mind, a home with older children would likely be best. Orion is unreactive when he sees the shelter cat.

This sweet guy deserves a couch with a family to call his own! Please give him the chance he deserves. He has been at the shelter way too long, and he just got so sad when his friend was rescued while he was left behind.
