Happy Weaving Wednesday!

Valerie is weaving a warp in deflective double weave. The colors inspire thoughts of autumn in New England with red, gold, rust, green, yellow and brown with a hint of purple.

Happy Weaving Wednesday!

The “crayon box” of colors is one of Louise’s favorites. For this project, Tara designed the striped “crayon box” warp with black striping. Woven in a twill, the weft colors were selected from those used in the warp. This woven warp will be used to create a variety of products.

Happy Weaving Wednesday!

Another woven warp coming off an artisan's loom as we prepare for our November Open House and Sale. This week Jo-Ann finished weaving some lovely cotton yardage. It's woven in varied width striped with colors of ivory, blue, periwinkle, lime, and deep chocolate. This yardage will be made into napkin sets and other items. The fabric is lightweight but very stable as it is made of a plain weave.

Come visit us TODAY from 11:00am-2:00pm at our classroom studio at the Manchester Historical Society in Manchester CT! Enter through the main entrance of the Historical Society at 175 Pine Street and enjoy all the exhibits from the Society as you walk down to our classroom studio.
We will have weaving demonstrations, a loom for you to try your hand at weaving, a small selection of our artisan hand-woven products for sale (cash or card), and you'll have an opportunity to talk to some of our students as they work on their projects. This event is free and open to all ages!

Happy Weaving Wednesday!

Lots of lovely woven warps coming off our artisans' looms these days as we prepare for our November Open House and Sale.

In the first photo Greg is standing next to his loom with a woven warp of plain weave draped over his shoulder and rolled out on the floor in front of him. Colors include blues, grays, green and some bright pink stripes in the warp. This will be finished into a set of placemats.

In the second photo Carole (with Ana helping to hold one end on her left) holds her latest woven warp which will be finished into mug rugs. Woven in cotton, some in rep weave and some in double weave, the finished mug rugs will be sold in sets of 4. A perfect holiday gift!

Our November Open House and Sale will be November 14-15 this year! Save the date, more information coming in October.

A few colorful warps from our Beginner Floor Loom class in Manchester! Our new weavers have beautiful warps on their looms ready to be threaded!

Both warps have lease sticks threaded through the warp fibers. Lease sticks are flat, smooth wooden slats used to maintain the thread-by-thread order of a warp cross during the loom-dressing and beaming process.
