The Infant-Toddler Development Assessment IDA-2

The Infant-Toddler Development Assessment IDA-2 The IDA Institute is home to the IDA-2, a comprehensive, holistic developmental assessment that results in an Individualized Family Service Plan.

The IDA-2 is used in a wide range of agencies and practices to support young children and their families. The IDA is a set of processes and procedures that employs naturalistic observation and incorporates parent reports of the child’s development. The IDA includes the Provence Profile, a measure with eight developmental domains, covers the full range of child development and psycho-social skills,

employs naturalistic observation, and incorporates parent report of the child’s development. which helps it to achieve a greater depth in the essential psycho-social domains compared to other instruments. The result is a descriptive summary of the child’s developmental competencies that includes a performance age range. IDA-2:

Bridges the gap between screening and more complex tertiary level developmental evaluation. Processes, guides, collects and integrates data from multiple sources. Considers the complexity and interdependence of health, family, and emotional & social factors that influence the child's development throughout the assessment process. Results in a descriptive summary of developmental competencies that includes a performance age range with percentage delay and service plan. Allows for effective short and long-term monitoring of individual children and aggregate reporting. Meets all federal requirements of IDEA and aligns with OSEP Early Childhood Outcomes and Head Start Child Outcomes.

Jeree Pawl helped shape the field of reflective practice—long before it was a buzzword. She taught that empathy, self-awareness, and presence aren’t “extras”—they’re the foundation of emotionally responsive care.

Her legacy is still felt today.

Reflective supervision and consultation (RS/C) are now recognized as critical to supporting early childhood professionals. And the field is growing, calling us to reflect not just on relationships, but on power, privilege, and equity.

Our latest member-exclusive article follows that evolution, from Jeree’s earliest teachings to the urgent opportunities ahead: https://bit.ly/4hDt4tk

Even if you’re not a member yet, her message still matters. And it might be the reason you join: https://bit.ly/4250kna

We are honored to share the Governor's 2024 Proclamation to kick-off Celebrate Babies Week!

The Connecticut Association for Infant Mental Health (CT-AIMH) dedicates one week each year to officially celebrate infants, toddlers, young children, their families & early childhood professionals in Connecticut and across the globe!

CT-AIMH invites you to join in this initiative this week by Celebrating Babies, perhaps with your program or team. In the past professionals have joined together to host a "Diaper Drive", or a Brown Bag "Lunch and Learn". Others have gathered together to view a documentary: "Babies" "Resilient" or "No Small Matter". We encourage you to share your activities with the CT-AIMH community by sending a photo, a comment, or something similar to [email protected].

Join us to find a way to celebrate the unique wonder and opportunity that only happens during the first three years of life.

Child development isn't a one-size-fits-all journey—it's a tapestry woven with multiple threads. At The IDA Institute, we understand that no single theory encompasses all aspects of early development. The Provence Profile, an exclusive element of the IDA-2 framework, enables practitioners to bring together different perspectives, viewing the child across strands and embracing the complexity of the child's development.
