WELCOME COHORT 8 💙

TRP proudly welcomed Cohort 8 residents and mentors for Orientation!

Seeing how far this program has come and the impact it continues to make year after year is truly inspiring! We are incredibly grateful for the support of our partners and community, whose commitment helps make each new cohort possible. A special thank you to CT’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, Brian Betesh for stopping by and talking to our new residents!

We can’t wait to see all that Cohort 8 will accomplish. Their journey is just beginning, and we know they are ready to make a meaningful difference.

Welcome Cohort 8! Here's to a year of growth, leadership, and impact!

TRP IN ACTION 💙

From TRP classrooms to leading classrooms, we are thrilled to have alumni and a former mentor teacher making an impact at Mystic River Magnet School. The future is bright with educators like these leading the way.

Full-circle moments like this remind us why our work matters. This is truly the kind of impact we strive for every day!

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK 💙📝

To celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, we asked residents and alumni to share the story of an educator who made a lasting difference in their lives. For Sarah Hart of Cohort 7, one teacher continues to stand out.

Yolanda Norris (Ms. Grant): More Than a Teacher

"For me it would be my high school Hairdressing, Barbering, and Cosmetology instructor Yolanda Norris (Ms. Grant). She will forever be one of the best teachers I’ve ever had! She not only taught me so much about cosmetology but was there for me and that meant the world to me. Her dedication encouraged me so much. She showed me how important it is to have meaningful relationships with your students because I can say for a fact that her students looked to her as more than a teacher. I still remember so many things she’s taught me till this day, that’s how you know how much of an impact she’s made on me."

The connections teachers build go far beyond the classroom—and can last a lifetime.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK 💙📝

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, we invited residents and alumni to highlight an educator who helped shape their journey. For Kiana Beamon of Cohort 3, one teacher’s impact stands out.

Dwight Sharpe: Inspiring What’s Possible

"Dwight Sharpe was my middle school math teacher—and the first educator I ever had who looked like me at the front of the classroom. Until then, I knew I wanted to teach; seeing him made me believe I actually could.

Mr. Sharpe had a rare ability to connect with students in ways others didn’t. He made math feel engaging and genuinely fun for the first time. Even now, we cross paths at local education events, and those moments remind me how lasting his influence has been. I carry that example with me every day, pushing myself to be the kind of teacher he was for me—for my own students."

Moments like these show how representation and connection can leave a lifelong impact.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK 💙📝

As part of Teacher Appreciation Week, residents and alumni were invited to recognize an educator who has made a lasting impact on their path, and Aurora Hill of Cohort 2 knew exactly who to highlight!

Ana Serrano-Stanco: A Lasting Influence

"My CT TRP mentor, Ana Serrano-Stanco is an educator who has, and continues to make an impact on my teaching journey. When we matched and she called me Nena, I knew I was going to be impacted simply because she was not only a teacher of color, but a proud Latina. She encouraged me to be proud and celebrate who I am and where I come from as an educator and as a Latina. She has taught me so much and continues to teach me by her example. One most important gem I hold that she taught me and wrote on my very first teacher name plaque for my desk is 'Capture their hearts before capturing their minds!' I am so grateful for the impact she has had in my life."

Mentorship like this leaves a lasting mark—shaping not just careers, but identities and purpose.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK 💙💙📝

Residents and alumni were asked to take a few moments to reflect on an educator who has had a meaningful impact on their journey—and for Mahalakshmi Ganapathy Subramaniyan of Cohort 7, that reflection led immediately to one person!

Mrs. Lesley Bentil: The Standard of Excellence

"While my coach, Lesley Bentil, initially appeared strict and incredibly direct, I soon realized that her precision is her greatest strength. She maintains high expectations because she truly believes in our potential. By staying "to the point," she provides the clear direction and right path necessary to mold us into effective, professional educators.

Lesley has been a constant source of motivation, providing a wealth of resources and leads that have been essential to my development. Her ability to challenge me while providing the tools to meet those challenges has been instrumental in my growth."

That combination has been transformative for Mahalakshmi.
