We’re excited to share a new way for families, friends, and loved ones to stay connected with Our Friends House (OFH)!

Our Friends House is part of the Oceana County Council on Aging, and we’re bringing our online community together under the OCCOA page.

As part of this change, we’ve created a private Our Friends House Family Group where approved family members and caregivers can follow along with the fun, friendships, activities, and special moments happening at OFH.

Family members and caregivers who wish to join can access the page here: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/19W59QGm9i/

They will be asked a few questions to verify who they are before their request is accepted.

We love that this group will help families who live out of town feel a little more connected to their loved ones and the wonderful things happening at OFH each day.

On our Oceana County Council on Aging page, you will see regular highlights on Fridays with plus new posts about caregiver support, respite, and other resources. You can follow along by visiting the Oceana County Council on Aging page here: https://www.facebook.com/oceanacoa

We had a great week staying cool inside! Today we celebrated the install of our new projector system with a musical and some popcorn! The new projector was made possible thanks to a grant through the Great Lakes Energy Peoples Fund and a generous donation made in memory of Mike and Susan Castor. The new projector is part of a larger project to introduce more dementia friendly arts and culture opportunities to Our Friends House, the Council on Aging, and beyond!

Our Friends House had an adventure yesterday! Not only did they visit with some wildlife, but they also enjoyed a "Tour of Italy." We made our own pizzas with all the toppings we loved and then enjoyed the Italian salad, garlic bread and lasagna from our amazing OCCOA kitchen!

This day made all feel special and everyone enjoyed eating their pizzas just as much as they did making them!

We had a wild visit from the Outdoor Discovery Center yesterday! We made new friends with an owl, turtle, frog, and even a snake! The team from ODC gave a great presentation on each animal and shared more information about Michigan's wildlife and natural habitats.

This lifelong learning opportunity was possible thanks to a generous donation made in memory of Mike and Susan Castor.

This week, our friends enjoyed a gardening activity as they planted seeds in colorful pots.

This project brought smiles and a sense of accomplishment as everyone carefully prepared their pots and planted seeds (which have already started to sprout)! Gardening is a great way to encourage creativity and enjoy the calming benefits of nature. Plus, who can pass up getting their hands a little dirty!?

We look forward to watching these seeds sprout and bloom in the coming weeks. Great job friends!
