Getting reports of loud shaking noise in our viewing area. Had some weather people call it Frost Quake.
🧊 What Is a Frost Quake?
A frost quake, also called cryoseism, happens when water in the ground freezes rapidly, causing the soil to expand and crack—creating a loud boom or shaking sensation.
❄️ When Do Frost Quakes Happen?
Sudden temperature drops
Very cold nights
After rain or snowmelt
When the ground is saturated with water
💥 What Does It Sound Like?
Loud boom or crack
Can feel like:
A small earthquake
An explosion
Something hitting your house
(Totally natural—no danger!)
🌍 Why They Happen
Water seeps into soil and rock
Temperatures drop fast
Water freezes and expands
Pressure builds
Ground cracks → BOOM
⚠️ Are Frost Quakes Dangerous?
✅ No — They do not cause structural damage
🚫 Not related to earthquakes or explosions
ℹ️ Just nature reacting to extreme cold
🧣 Winter Safety Tip
Extreme cold can cause unusual natural events.
Stay warm, stay alert, and don’t panic if you hear a loud noise outside!
