⚠️ We’ve about leveled out to just below 733’ - on her way to summer pool at 740’.

As the levels rise, beached wood from around the perimeter is now officially “back in”, so keep your eyes peeled as you make your way through the lake.

Wood will be moving north - heading for the dam, but it will need a few weekends of boaters to get it mostly pushed to the sides.

Safe boating!

Thank you to Sam Johnson for giving us a view from the Chenault Bridge area.

🌊 Are we finally gonna see the ole girl gain some weight? We hope so! We are just barely over winter pool. Thank you to local Cindy Brenner Ellsworth who gave us a preview from down at Clark’s Run - a tributary that helps feed our reservoir. It sits directly across from Bryant’s Camp, at the south end of the lake. And, as with most of our surroundings, it’s steeped in colonial Kentucky history.

📍Clark’s Run – A Pioneer’s Footprint on Herrington Lake

Before this quiet creek fed the waters of Herrington Lake, it was a lifeline for Kentucky’s earliest settlers.

In 1775, a pioneer named George Clark staked his claim along these banks—planting crops, building a station, and carving out a home in the wild frontier. By 1779, Clark’s Station stood as one of the region’s first fortified outposts, a sibling settlement to nearby Harrodsburg and Stanford.

Today, Clark’s Run winds roughly 12 miles through the landscape of Boyle County before spilling into the lake. The waters have changed—flooded by the damming of the Dix River in 1925—but the name endures, a quiet nod to the grit of Kentucky’s early days.

So as you look out over this shoreline, you’re not just seeing a lake. You’re standing on ground that once echoed with rifle shot, homesteader dreams, and the first stubborn plows breaking new soil.

History runs deep here—right down to the name.

It’s What’s Ahead Wednesday and VSP is going to be taking the stage at Kamp Kennedy on Saturday night. So far Friday and Saturday are looking good - a crisp 59° start (that nice summer morning chill …) and hitting 82° and mostly sunny. 😎 Sounds like a plan …:

Ok .. well, this is different...Stay Bear Aware! Our neighbors at LockRidge Park had a visitor earlier this week.

A black bear paid an unexpected visit to Lockridge Park in Garrard County, one of several recent sightings across the region as breeding season drives young male bears out of their mountain habitats.

🐤🎶 Birdsong isn't just beautiful background noise — it's one of nature's most powerful nervous system regulators.

When birds sing, they're broadcasting safety.

Their songs (vibrating at 1,000-8,000 Hz) guide your brain into alpha waves, the same relaxed-yet-alert state of meditation. In minutes, cortisol drops, anxiety eases, and your body receives the cellular message: you are safe.

Next time you hear them, pause. Close your eyes. Let the frequencies do what nothing else quite can in this unique way.

Save this for your next walk or morning moment outside. I don’t think there’s ever a day when you don’t learn something new and I love that!

What's your favorite birdsong?

We made the national animal news with The Dodo! 😂

This stranded cow needed a helping hand 🐄

Firefighters in Boyle County, Kentucky, responded after a cow was found stranded in a lake near Danville. Water rescue crews used boats to safely reach the animal, secure it, and guide it back to shore.

Once on land, responders worked through rocky terrain and a steep embankment to move the cow to a safe location. Officials said the animal appeared to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
