The grassroots work we do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from su***de by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for su***de research and programs, and reaching out to those individua

ls who have lost someone to su***de. As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent su***de in our communities. Our Virginia Chapter was chartered in 2015, thanks to the vision and leadership of our Founding Board Chair, Shirley Ramsey who had hosted an Out of the Darkness Walk in Richmond for several years prior. Information on our current Virginia Chapter Board of Directors can be found at https://afsp.org/chapter/meet-our-leadership. We invite you to join our volunteer team by completing a volunteer application at afsp.org/virginia. We have roles to suit many skills, schedules, and interests.

As National Volunteer Week begins, I want to be the first to thank ALL of the volunteers that make mission delivery possible here in VA. We each have a "why?" that brought us to this work but as Executive Director, I find myself asking everyday "how?" And then I look around and see this wonderful chapter built by volunteers who make things happen every day. You are the mission in action, and I am grateful to be part of this journey with you. If I could personally thank each of you, it would take me the entire year and while I try to say it often, may this be a reminder that YOU ARE APPRECIATED. Thank you for how you show up to save lives and bring hope every day.

With FULL hope (thanks to you),

Markita
