Our Story
Rosemary is our 4-H Youth Program Educator and works directly with schools and the community. Through the 4-H program we are able to provide our services to all Rockingham County Public Schools (Pre-K through 12th). Our curriculum areas range from electricity to horticulture, water quality, natural resources, embryology in the classroom, farm to table, and much more! Rosemary is able to provide classroom/program visits, community contacts on specialized topics, and several kits for classroom/program check out. The Rockingham County 4-H program offers a variety of youth programs. In addition to 4-H school based curriculum we have 12 county clubs that meet once a month in the evenings, Jr. 4-H camp every summer at Smith Mountain Lake (open to members and non-members), 4-H Cloverbud (ages 5-8) day camp every summer for a week, variety of workshops including foods, bicycling, horticulture, crafts, animals, career exploration, and community service (to name a few). 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills. 4-H, the largest comprehensive youth development program in the nation, educates young people, ages 5 to 18, through a variety of experiential techniques that encourage hands-on, active learning. More than 20,000 adults and teens volunteer their time and energy annually to help youth experience 4-H. Our programs assist more than 170,000 Virginia youth discover and build on their own ability to make good decisions, manage resources wisely, work effectively with others, and communicate successfully. Our 4-H camping program is one of the largest in the country and provides character-building experiences to participants at our six 4-H educational centers.
