LEAP Forward: Rotary Club of Northern Shenandoah Valley Unite to Boost Youth Literacy!
The Literacy Excellence and Achievement Partnership (LEAP) is proving what true community collaboration can accomplish. A Rotary-led initiative in partnership with Shenandoah County Public Schools, LEAP focuses on strengthening K–3 literacy—and its first major community event has already made an impressive impact.
The inaugural LEAP Book Fair brought together all four Rotary clubs across Shenandoah County: Rotary Club of New Market Virginia, Mt. Jackson-Edinburg Rotary Club, The Rotary Club of Woodstock VA, and Strasburg Rotary
Impact by the numbers:
👉 400+ volunteer hours contributed by 15 dedicated Rotarians to collect, sort, and host the event
👉 20,000 books distributed to readers of all ages, directly enriching home and classroom libraries
👉 $4,000+ raised to support local youth literacy efforts
"The teamwork by the four Rotary clubs to make the book fair a success is evidence of the power of Rotary collaboration," reflected Sharon Baroncelli, Woodstock Rotarian, Chamber of Commerce CEO, and LEAP Team Leader.
Book fair leader Bill Grass (Mt. Jackson-Edinburg Rotary Club) added, "We had a blast! Everyone worked well together and did their job. We exceeded our expectations on the number of books collected and distributed. It was especially gratifying to see books get into the hands of children and teachers."
Thank you to every Rotarian, volunteer, and community member who showed up to advance youth literacy in Shenandoah County. Together, we are People of Action!
