Rotary Club of Rockingham County (Virginia) Providing hot coffee, warm fellowship, and "Service above Self" Tuesday mornings since 1985. We meet Tuesdays at 7 am at Hyatt Place Harrisonburg.

We're the host club of the Rockingham Soapbox Derby. Our Golf Tournament supports the Ronald McDonald House at UVA Children's Hospital, and our annual car raffle is the stuff of legend. Join us, won't you?

Mayor Deanna Renee Reed visited our Rotary Club this past week and I failed to get a photo. So here she is showing up, as she always does for her community, at one of the Peace Pole dedications our club has done in Harrisonburg.

The Mayor spoke about all the good work going on in our City. She highlighted the 75 different languages spoken at our 2 High Schools, the cities relationship with James Madison University Eastern Mennonite University and Bridgewater College. She also spoke about her work getting Rocktown High School, Harrisonburg Community Resource Center Fire Station 5, and Ralph Sampson Park Spray Grounds built.

Always an incredible presentation when Ken Rutherford joins us. This morning, James Madison University Political Science professor, Ken, spoke about landmines and cluster bombs. The work he has done to raise awareness and move people to action is incredible. His presentation, which everyone should hear, is enlightening, terrifying, and inspiring. Ken has done amazing work to make the world better, but there is so much more work to be done.

This morning we were honored to host the Rotary Club of Broadway-Timberville and welcome Rotary District 7570 Governor Charlotte Whitted, Immediate Past District Governor Andy Vanhook, Area Governor Meghan Schenker-Fulcher, and Rotary Club of Broadway-Timberville President Kristina Bontrager. Thank you all for joining and for Charlotte sharing some of the magic of Rotary.

Both the Rotary Club of Broadway-Timberville and the Rotary Club of Rockingham were presented a Milestone Award for their work growing membership in our Service Above Self club. Great presentation this morning by Bill Howard on the good work being done at Adagio House. He also shared on his personal story that brought him to want to support area non-profits, his work with Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance 's Levitt Amp Music Series, and his life as a musician.
