Our Executive Director, Lindsey Douglas, is at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, this week!

Lindsey shares that her favorite part of conference "is the opportunity to learn about ways to enhance our work from and be connected with peers, community and corporate leaders, and experts."

Our team is excited to hear all about what she has learned and how to incorporate those lessons into our mission to create and support one-to-one mentoring for youth locally.

Big Matt and Little A***n have been matched in our Sports Buddies Mentoring Program since February 2026, and they’ve been making the most of every event together!

Whether they’re bowling, building LEGO creations, exploring arcades, playing board games, cheering at a baseball game, or joining a game of whiffle ball with other matches, these two are always ready to jump into the action. If there’s a new activity to try, chances are Matt and A***n are first in line.

One thing they quickly discovered they have in common is a love for LEGO building. They enjoy talking about their favorite sets, sharing stories, and comparing their latest creations. From the very beginning, they hit it off through conversations about TV shows, movies, hobbies, and life in general.

Matt does a great job asking thoughtful questions, and A***n is a fantastic storyteller. At every Sports Buddies event, you can find them deep in conversation, laughing together, and already planning what they want to do next time. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to try new things make them a wonderful match.

We love seeing this new friendship grow and can't wait to see what adventures they take on next!

Last week, Executive Director Lindsey Douglas and Program Director Elizabeth Williams represented Big Brothers Big Sisters at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Connections Showcase.

The evening provided a great opportunity to connect with local businesses, community leaders, and fellow Chamber members while sharing how mentorship helps young people realize their full potential. We enjoyed meaningful conversations about volunteer opportunities, community partnerships, and the impact that one caring adult can have in a child's life.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, entered our giveaway, and took the time to learn more about our mission. We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to invest in local youth and the power of mentorship.

Big Nathaniel and Little Dillion have been matched in our Community-Based Mentoring Program since December 2024, and their story is a wonderful example of commitment and consistency in mentoring.

When Nathaniel recently moved to Staunton, he made a decision that speaks volumes about the bond they have built—he wanted to continue being Dillion’s Big. Today, he makes it a priority to see Dillion at least once a month, often spending the entire day together making memories.

Nathaniel has also built a strong relationship with Dillion’s family. Despite the distance, he stays in regular communication with Dillion’s parents, attends family celebrations and birthdays, and always takes time to come inside and catch up when he picks Dillion up for an outing. Their Match Support Specialist even happened to run into them during one of their baseball adventures!

Dillion’s parent shared how grateful she is for Nathaniel’s continued involvement and dedication. This match is a powerful reminder that mentorship isn't just about shared activities—it's about showing up, staying connected, and being a consistent source of support.
