Today, our Executive Director, was grateful for the opportunity to represent Way to Go at the H.R.1 Work Requirements Information & Planning Session, alongside some of the best human services professionals and organizations from across the Commonwealth.
The conversation focused on upcoming changes to Medicaid and SNAP work requirements, the people and communities who may be impacted, and—most importantly—how organizations can work together to identify barriers and fill gaps in services.
One thing stood out loud and clear: when we were asked to identify the biggest gaps and barriers, transportation was the #1 issue identified.
Transportation impacts everything—getting to work, maintaining employment, completing required activities, accessing services, and ultimately remaining eligible for critical benefits. For many individuals and families, meeting a work requirement isn’t simply about willingness to work. It is also about having a reliable way to get there.
Way to Go is thankful to have a seat at the table for these important conversations. As these changes move toward implementation, collaboration among state agencies, human services organizations, nonprofits, employers, and community partners will be incredibly important.
And today’s discussion reinforced something we see every day at Way to Go: transportation isn’t just about getting from Point A to Point B. It’s often the bridge to employment, stability, and self-sufficiency.
