Hello Rocktown Rotarians and Friends!

Thank you to those who came out to the Rocktown History Museum Lawn Clean Up!

Our next meeting is this Wednesday, May 13, from 5:30–6:30 PM at Beyond. We’re looking forward to learning more about the Rockingham County Fair.

A few important updates and reminders:

June Service Project: We are partnering with Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance to host the children’s arts and crafts space at Best.Weekend.Ever. on Saturday, June 13. We need volunteers to help plan the activities (let Jessica know ASAP if you are interested), and we will need volunteers to work the arts and crafts stations to help children and families with the crafts. July Social & Service Project: This summer, we will be doing another gift card drive for New Creations! We’re collecting gift cards ranging from $10 to $50 to Sheetz and Exxon (for gas) and Walmart and Target (for general needs). Please bring a gift card to our July meeting and help provide comfort, independence, and dignity to those on the path to healing from human trafficking.

Partnering with other Clubs: Rockingham Rotary is looking for volunteers for the 21st annual Soap Box Derby on Saturday, May 30, at SRI in Harrisonburg. This is their club’s largest annual fundraiser, and they need plenty of help to make the race a success. ***SERVICE OPPORTUNITY ALERT!***

Rocktown Rotary will be helping with a lawn clean-up project at Rocktown History in Dayton this Saturday, May 2, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The main tasks will include clipping shrubbery, cutting suckers at the base of trees, and removing scrub brush and large weeds from landscaped areas. We are hoping to have a group of about six people. You can sign up here:

Small group with a BIG impact! Check out the before and afters, as well as some of the interesting items our group encountered. Final stats: 3 Rotarians, 1 Rotary spouse, 2 new friends (one who is interested in joining!) -> 17 industrial trash bags + 1 shopping cart full + 1 giant stuffed Peeps bunny removed from our community's waterway! Tonight we had a fantastic showing with 12 members and 1 guest Rotarian to hear our featured speaker, Morgan Kray Gross, founder of Valley Creative Reuse. Morgan did an amazing job of sharing all about the intersection of sustainability, creativity, mental health, and building community! We are signed up and have been assigned our stretch of steam along Evelyn Byrd Ave to University Blvd. Map and liability waivers in the email from Jessica. We’ve had a lot of fun in past years and hope to have another memorable experience again this year!

Happy sunny Tuesday, Rotarians and Friends!

Our next meeting is TOMORROW, Wednesday, March 11th, from 5:30–6:30 PM at Beyond. We’re looking forward to welcoming Susan Adamson from Blue Ridge Free Clinic.

Following the meeting, we’ll hold a service activity to support our local first responders. The Rockingham Club is joining us in this service activity. If you’re available, please stay after the meeting to help assemble care kits as a small token of our appreciation for those who serve community members during emergencies.

A few important updates and reminders:

Rotary District Conference registration is now OPEN. Please consider joining us April 23–26, 2026, at James Madison University’s Atlantic Union Bank Center. Early bird registration runs through March 15. Let’s show strong support for our District Governor, Andy Vanhook, with a great turnout from Rocktown Rotary.
