The CALL in Boone & Newton Counties

Vision: No waiting children in foster care in Arkansas. The CALL in Boone County started as a God given desire in the hearts of several people.

The common thread in these individuals was their understanding of God’s heart toward orphans (James 1:27) and the knowledge of the desperate needs of these children. They bonded together determined to do something. Once connected with The CALL in Arkansas, they were on their way to making a difference. The CALL in Boone County was launched on January 12th, 2014 after more than a year of planning,

fundraising, and building a team of like-minded Christians. In Boone County, the need is so great that over 50% of the children brought into foster care have to be taken out of our county to find an open foster home. Sometimes, there is no room in any of the surrounding area foster homes and the children are placed in an emergency shelter, group home, or other facility. This means changing schools, long driving time for weekly visits, and leaving friends, churches, and the community they know. The feeling of being uprooted is added to their feelings of fear and confusion. These children need a safe and loving home in our community that is familiar to them. God is giving families in our area an exciting opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus for these children. Some children will only need us temporarily until their family is restored and others will need a forever family through adoption. If just one family from each church in Boone County would open their home, we would have an abundance of homes for our children. Sign up for our next Informational meeting to see how you can help! Did you know that reunification, when safe and appropriate, is the primary goal of foster care?

Foster care gives children a safe place to land while their families receive the support and resources needed to heal and move toward reunification.

At The CALL, we're honored to partner with DCFS in this work by creating safe spaces where biological families can reconnect and equipping the Christian community to walk alongside foster families in this effort.

During National Reunification Month, we celebrate every family working towards healing and restoration. 🩵

A family's journey toward healing sometimes looks like a dining room table covered in crayons that siblings left behind. Other times, it looks like a disheveled couch after storytime. It can be a game of tag outside, sharing favorite treats at a picnic table, or cooking a fresh meal in the kitchen. And still other times, it looks like a damp towel left on the side of a tub or a near-empty box of tissues on the coffee table.

These moments of healing, full of both joy and heartache, happen every day in our Support Centers across the state. Last year, we welcomed these moments in the 4,971 family visitations that took place in our Support Centers. This year, we've already hosted more than 2,000 visits, and that many more moments of healing.

Behind every number is a child eager to see their parent, a caregiver working toward restoration, and a family taking one more step toward being together again.

Our Support Centers are safe, private, family-oriented spaces where children and their families can spend meaningful time together during foster care. They are places where parents and children can laugh, play, talk, celebrate milestones, and simply practice being family.

Family visitations are one of the strongest contributors to successful, safe, and appropriate reunifications. During National Reunification Month, we're reminded of the pivotal role our Support Centers play in providing welcoming spaces where those visits can happen.

How can I support reunification as a foster parent?

1️⃣ 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
Family visitations are one of the strongest contributors to reunification. Advocate for safe, quality, family-supportive visits in welcoming spaces, like The CALL Support Centers.

2️⃣ 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲.
Include birth parents in decision-making when appropriate. Ask about the child's favorite foods, activities, routines, and preferences to help maintain important connections.

3️⃣ 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆.
Talk with the children in your home about happy family memories and speak respectfully and positively about their biological parents.

4️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆.
Pray for the parents, siblings, and extended family of the child in your home. Pray for healing, restoration, and strength. Pray with the child for their biological family when appropriate.

5️⃣ 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.
Share the Gospel and encourage biological parents as they continue their journey toward healing, growth, and reconciliation.

6️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘀𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀.
Share photos, artwork, awards, and the small day-to-day moments that tell the story of a child's life. These meaningful mementos can help preserve connection and memories.

7️⃣ 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀.
Children and teens in foster care need more open homes in their own communities so they can stay connected to friends, mentors, teams, familiar places, and family visitations.

Will you join us in praying for biological families today?

Many parents are working hard to overcome significant challenges and create a safe, stable future for themselves and their children. Some are carrying wounds from difficult experiences in their own childhoods and need support, encouragement, and hope along the way.

Today, take a moment to pray for these moms and dads. Pray for strength, perseverance, healing, and the determination to keep moving forward as they work toward reunification with their children. And pray that they and their children would encounter the love of Jesus again and again through the people walking alongside them on the journey toward reunification.

What does reunification look like?

1️⃣ 𝗔 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.
Children may enter foster care for a variety of reasons, including abuse, neglect, abandonment, or parental incapacity. During this time, they are placed with relatives or foster families who can provide a safe and stable home.

2️⃣ 𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱.
Reunification is the primary goal of nearly every foster care case. The court establishes a plan and timeline based on the unique needs of the child and family.

3️⃣ 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻.
Parents are given specific steps to complete and services to support their progress. Caseworkers help guide the process and provide updates and recommendations to the court along the way.

4️⃣ 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱.
As progress is made, visits often increase in frequency and duration. When it is safe and appropriate, the court develops a transition plan, and the children return home.

While every case is different, the hope is always that families can heal, grow, and be reunited safely.

As Foster Care Awareness Month comes to a close, it feels like the perfect time to honor someone who has made an extraordinary impact on The CALL and on countless lives along the way.

After serving on staff since 2019, and volunteering for two years before joining the team, our beloved Carolyn is retiring from The CALL. Her last day on staff will be June 4th.

Around our Support Center, it's often said that everyone needs a Carolyn in their life. Those of us who know her understand exactly why. Carolyn loves people unconditionally. She offers wisdom rooted in Scripture, grace in every circumstance, and a listening ear to anyone who needs one. She has walked alongside biological families, foster families, DCFS workers, volunteers, and staff with genuine care and compassion. I am especially grateful for the encouragement, wisdom, and friendship she has shared with me over the years.

Carolyn has helped grow this mission and has touched more lives than she will ever know. Her faithfulness, servant's heart, and deep love for those impacted by foster care have left a lasting mark on our organization and community.

While we will miss her tremendously as a staff member, we have a feeling she won't stay away for long. Carolyn's heart for serving children and families is simply too big. We fully expect to see her back volunteering with us soon.

Please join us in thanking Carolyn for her years of faithful service and celebrating all she has meant to The CALL. We would love for you to join us for a retirement reception in her honor on June 10th as we celebrate her incredible legacy and all she has poured into this ministry over the years.

Today was a truly special day as we celebrated the reunification of a child and their parent with a joyful “Toddler Shower” surrounded by family, friends, and supporters.

For nearly a year and a half, we had the privilege of hosting reunification visits for this family three days a week, three hours at a time. We watched a journey unfold that was filled with challenges, growth, perseverance, and above all, love.

When visits first began, this parent would barely make eye contact when walking through the doors of our support center. Today, we celebrated their greatest accomplishment yet, full custody of their child.

There were moments when reunification seemed impossible. There were setbacks, frustrations, tears, and difficult days. But through it all, this parent never stopped showing up. They completed every requirement, faced every obstacle, and continued fighting for a better future. We witnessed the struggles, but what stood out most was the unconditional love they had for their child and the determination they found within themselves to keep moving forward.

Today, we celebrated family. We celebrated restoration. We celebrated a parent who refused to give up.

This is why our support center and visitation space are so important. We believe in welcoming families without judgment and surrounding them with support, encouragement, and hope. This parent transformed their life not only for themselves but for their child, and it was an incredible blessing to witness that transformation firsthand.

What a beautiful celebration it was as our staff, volunteers, DCFS staff, immediate family, and extended family gathered together to honor the reunification and restoration of this family.

A special thank you to the Carter Grace Foundation for loving this family so well and helping make this celebration so meaningful.

Today was a reminder that hope, hard work, support, and love can change lives. We are honored to have been a small part of this family’s journey and are cheering them on as they begin this exciting new chapter together. ❤️

We are so grateful for the incredible support our community has already shown. Thanks to generous donors, we have already raised almost $1,000 toward our goal.

But we still URGENTLY need your help.

The air conditioning unit in our family reunification space is OUT, and with summer temperatures rising, visits are becoming extremely uncomfortable for the children and families we serve.

This space is where healing happens. Last year alone, we hosted 233 reunification visits, and we are currently hosting 3 or more visits every week as families work to rebuild trust and reconnect.

Our goal is to raise $6,600 for a new air conditioning unit so children and parents can focus on healing together in a safe and comfortable environment.

Every dollar makes a difference and gets us closer to restoring comfort to this important space.
