“Hope is a strategy, not just a feeling.”
I recently saw these words and they have sat with me. It’s unbelievably hard most days to feel hope. But what does hope look like as a strategy, as an action?
It’s what drives outreach workers going back to the same folks again and again to build trust.
It’s what keeps us fighting for the what’s right, no matter the odds or how hard it is.
It’s what has kept us going this last year and a half, putting one foot in front of another—together—knowing that there will be another side to this moment.
It’s the refusal to accept that homelessness is inevitable.
It’s the refusal to give up.
Hope is what reminds us who we are when things are overwhelming—it reminds us that we can do hard things.
Hope is not passive.
Hope inspires. Hope organizes. Hope advocates. Hope innovates.
And most importantly, hope perseveres.
