To the Harrison community near the old Harrison Elementary / new community center area:
During the early morning hours between Saturday night and Sunday morning, two individuals who appeared to be teenagers threw rocks through the windows of the Forgotten Child Fund building.
This is deeply disappointing.
The Forgotten Child Fund is not a business. It is not a government agency. It is a nonprofit operated entirely by volunteers from the fire, police, and EMS community who give their own time, energy, and money to make sure no child is forgotten at Christmas.
Every year, these volunteers work countless hours collecting toys, food, clothing, and donations so that children in our community wake up Christmas morning knowing that someone cares. Thousands of local children and families depend on this effort.
Breaking the windows of a place that exists solely to help children is not a prank. It is not harmless. It takes money away from children who need help, creates additional costs for a charity that already stretches every dollar, and shows a complete lack of respect for the people who work year-round to help others.
We are asking the community to speak with your children and teenagers about this. Actions have consequences, and this kind of behavior is not acceptable in Harrison or anywhere else.
If anyone saw anything suspicious in the area during those hours, or has any information, please do the right thing and come forward. The people who volunteer for the Forgotten Child Fund have spent years helping this community. They should not have to spend their time repairing damage caused by senseless acts.
We can, and must, do better for one another.
