Way to go Coburg!!!

Last night at approximately 22:30, Coburg Fire Volunteer Fire District responded to a walk-in patient who arrived in active labor.

Our duty crew quickly assisted the patient out of her vehicle, called dispatch for a medic unit and for a volunteer response and began care on scene. Within moments, firefighters successfully delivered a healthy baby.

Pictured below are Firefighter/EMT Ethan Holm and volunteer Firefighter Eddie Lopez, the first two on scene, who played a critical role in the safe delivery. This marked the first delivery for both members.

Great work by these two, and a proud moment for Coburg Fire. Congratulations to the family!

It was only the first really warm day of the year, and multiple fires have started throughout the PNW.

All these fires are staffed, and several have already been brought under control using ground crews and aircraft.

The National Interagency Fire Center is predicting a rough fire season, PLEASE help us by doing your part to prevent human-caused fires!

Know the terms, and what they mean!

It's going to get hot, hot, HOT this weekend so be prepared. Check local weather and fire restrictions before bringing any fire hazards onto the landscape. Knowing if your area is in a fire weather watch or a red flag warning could help you prevent the next wildfire in Oregon.

Like the old Boy Scout motto:

"Be prepared!"

Wildfires can move fast. Having a go bag ready can save precious time. Pack essentials like documents, first aid supplies, water, clothing and chargers so you can leave quickly if conditions change. Learn more at ready.gov/wildfires and stay prepared.

If you are working around your property this weekend, remember that sparks from lawnmowers DO start wildfires. Here are a few tips to reduce the risk of starting a fire while mowing-

Mow before 10 a.m., but never when it’s windy or excessively dry.

Remember that lawn mowers are designed to mow lawns, not
weeds or dry grass. Metal lawnmower blades striking rocks can create sparks and start fires.

Keep the exhaust system, spark arrester, and engine in proper working order and free of carbon buildup.

Use the recommended grade of fuel and don’t fill to the point of overflowing.

More wildland refresher!

With fire season upon us, one last hard push on wildland firefighting was the focus for drill last week!

Our engineers practiced pump&roll operations, used on grass and field fires.

All personnel practiced digging firebreaks and deploying emergency fire shelters, heavily peppered with talks from the more experienced firefighters on what to do.. and what not to.
