The Week of Action wraps today β€” but the work doesn't stop here. Here's how you can make your voice heard:

βœ… Fully fund and modernize WIC βœ… Delay implementation of SNAP administrative and benefit cost shifts to states βœ… Oppose any farm bill that doesn't address the unfolding SNAP crisis

⚠️ Heads up: the Senate Farm Bill as written maintains the H.R. 1 SNAP cuts, only delays the payment timeline (not the state cost shift itself), and pays for that delay with future SNAP cuts. Key harms remain.

πŸ“ž Call or email your Member of Congress this week. Introduce yourself, share why SNAP matters in your community, and ask them to act. Every call and email adds up.

Let's do OUR PART. One COMMUNITY. One COMMITMENT.

SNAP Is Already Shrinking

The impact isn't a future risk β€” it's already happening.

πŸ“‰ More than 5.8 million people have lost SNAP since January 2025 πŸ“‰ 5 million of those losses came after H.R. 1 passed in July 2025 πŸ“‰ And many H.R. 1 provisions haven't even taken effect yet

This is real people, in real communities, losing access to food right now β€” before the harshest parts of the law even kick in. That's why this week of action matters: the window to change course is closing.

Urge Your Senators to Pass Legislation That Supports Families and Farmers, Restores SNAP

America's hunger crisis is deepening.

The Senate must move a Farm Bill or farm relief legislation that provides significant investments and reverses the crushing impacts of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) cuts in H.R. 1.

Last year, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) warned that the impact of the SNAP cuts would result in widespread harm to millions of Americans, particularly children, older adults, parents, veterans, the unhoused, people with disabilities, and working families.

And now that warning is reality. Millions of people are losing access to SNAP. In addition to the human toll, the cuts are having dire economic impacts on farmers, food retailers, local communities, and the overall national economy.

Tell your Senators they must be part of the solution.

Use the FRAC Action Network to send an email, or craft your own, to communicate directly with your Senators.

THE RIPPLE EFFECT ON KIDS: Impact on other Children Programs

Losing SNAP doesn't just mean losing groceries β€” it can set off a chain reaction for kids:

🍎 Kids on SNAP are automatically eligible for free school meals. Losing SNAP can break that connection. πŸ‰ SNAP-enrolled kids automatically get Summer EBT β€” $120 in grocery aid over the summer.

Homeschooled kids and those at schools without the National School Lunch Program get none at all. 🍼

SNAP makes children automatically eligible for WIC. Without it, families face extra paperwork just to keep their kids fed.

One program touches so many others. Protecting SNAP protects the whole safety net for kids.

Did you know SNAP has never been part of state budgets β€” until now?

H.R. 1 changes that for the first time in the program's history:

πŸ”Ή States must cover 75% of SNAP administrative costs starting FY2027 (up from 50%)
πŸ”Ή Starting FY2028, states will pay a share of SNAP food benefits β€” tied to their error rates β€” for the first time ever
πŸ”Ή Based on FY2024 data, more than 40 states could face these new costs

This isn't just a federal policy shift β€” it's a direct hit to state budgets already stretched thin, and it puts food assistance at risk for families who depend on it. Congress can act to reverse it.

This week, Latino Connection Foundation is supporting the Nationwide Week of Action: From Farmers to Families β€” Investing in SNAP Matters. 🌾🏑

SNAP isn't just food assistance β€” it's the nation's first line of defense against hunger. In an average month in 2023, it helped 42 million people put food on the table. And every $1 in SNAP benefits generates up to $1.80 in local economic activity, supporting farmers, grocers, and retailers in our own communities.
All week long, we're sharing why SNAP matters and how you can raise your voice. Follow along and take action with us.

The foundation has been poured at Woodward Lofts β€” and we are BUILDING!

From a long-vacant lot on Allison Hill to a cornerstone of our community's future β€” this milestone has us fired up.

We're thrilled to share that the foundation pour at Woodward Lofts is officially complete, as captured by our construction partner Group. πŸŽ₯ Watch the moment here πŸ‘‰ https://www.linkedin.com/posts/the-next-milestone-at-woodward-lofts-is-complete-ugcPost-7463253574035140608-7hz2/

A huge shoutout to Dan Blood for documenting the coordination and teamwork that goes into a milestone like this!

This is a major step forward in our mission to bring 48 affordable senior housing units (for residents 62+) to 1001 N. 18th St. in Harrisburg β€” on the very ground where Woodward Elementary School once stood.

And the building itself is as innovative as the community it'll serve. Designed by our architect Design Studio, Woodward Lofts will be Pennsylvania's first LIHTC development built with a hybrid mass timber and prefabricated panelized framing system β€” combining beauty, sustainability, and efficiency to create a home seniors will be proud of.

This is what it looks like when community leads the way β€” neighbors, partners, architects, and builders all working toward something bigger than any one of us.

Construction is underway. Completion expected in 2027. We can't wait to welcome our first residents home. 🏠

The next milestone at Woodward Lofts is complete: the foundation pour. One step closer to bringing 48 affordable senior housing units (62+) to the Allison Hill community in Harrisburg, PA. We’re excited to see construction moving forward on this innovative project, which will become PHFA’s first...
