On Saturday, we celebrated the legacy of three Dauphin County Patriots buried at Union Deposit Cemetery!

🇺🇸 Patriot Andreas Hornner
🇺🇸 Patriot Jacob Landis
🇺🇸 Patriot Georg Bauer

Harris Ferry Chapter SAR, South Hanover Township, and the South Hanover Township Historical Society successfully held this public ceremony in honor of these three Patriots and the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America.

A special thank you to everyone that helped pull this off and coordinate everything, particularly Dick and Lynn for their love of the cemetery and our local history. Thank you to Sen. Patty Kim and PA State Rep. Tom Mehaffie for their words and patriotism. And a special thank you our color guardsmen from various Chapters of the Pennsylvania State Society SAR.

And finally, a major thank you to the DESCENDANTS of the Patriots that were in attendance and those who could not attend that sent their comments. Over a dozen descendants of Patriot Hornner were in present, with several others known who made contact.

One of Harris Ferry’s Charter Members from 1940, Mr. Roger LeVan Landis, was a descendant of Patriot Landis.

Thank you all, and get geared as the 250th celebration is officially only a few weeks away!

Great news! We are please to announce that our chapter website harrisferrysar.org is back up and running! And better yet, it got a visual overhaul! Welcome to 2026! 🇺🇸

Some features are still being migrated, so please be patient if there is something missing. We are prioritizing getting the events calendar fully filled out, news posts re-added, and overall site functionality. There may be some visual changes to individual pages, but right now we just wanted to get the information into the page so it was available. The finishing touches are easy after that!

We appreciate your patience, and if there is anything you may need in the interim while the site is being rebuilt, please message us here on Facebook or email [email protected].

Thank You! 🇺🇸

Just a small announcement: our chapter website is currently down, and we believe it is due to a server error. We have confirmed other sites using similar or the same providers are also experiencing issues with their sites as well.

We appreciate your patience, and if you need to contact us, you may message our Facebook or email [email protected].

Thanks!

The cemetery preservation project at Dillsburg Cemetery was a HUGE success! Thanks to Northern York County Historical & Preservation Society / Dill's Tavern for helping to organize and teach some history while there.

Harris Ferry President Lemon conducted the class to about three to four dozen attendees, including a large portion of energetic students. While the majority cleaned stones, Lemon repaired the broken and fallen headstone of Revolutionary War Patriot William Mitchell and reset the toppled headstone of Revolutionary War Patriot Edward O'Hail. Lemon will return to put some finishing touches on them, but in a few weeks to months the stones will start to look clean and clear once more!

(Note that nifty Sons of the Revolution (not SAR for those curious) marker next to O'Hail's grave!)

Two important updates!

1) the cemetery project at Dillsburg Cemetery is still happening tomorrow Sunday at 2pm!

2) the Harris Ferry website is under some downtime, so if you attempt to visit it you’ll receive an error. That error is fake and possible malware, so please don't follow any of those prompts just to make sure. We are working on getting it back up asap. Apologies about the inconvenience!

Harris Ferry President Lemon is instructing the Sunday class! Come dressed to get dirty (and a little wet, there might be some misting in the air, which works out for stone cleaning) if you want to clean some stones! If you want to come and learn about the process and history, stop on by!

We hope you’ll join us this weekend for two America250 events celebrating local history in Northern York County.

🇺🇸 Living History at the Quaker Meeting House - Saturday, May 23
From 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, local 4th-grade students will portray Revolutionary War Patriots connected to our community and share the stories they’ve spent weeks researching as part of the NYCHAPS Revolutionary War Project.

These students have put so much heart into learning and sharing our local history, and we’d love to see the community come out to support them.

🪦 Tombstone Preservation Workshop - Sunday, May 24
Learn how Revolutionary War gravestones are carefully repaired and preserved during this hands-on public workshop at Dillsburg Cemetery from 2 pm - 5 pm.

No RSVP is required for either event. Learn more on our website or Facebook Events page.
