The warning period for Paul Miller’s law ends today. Tomorrow drivers can be stopped and cited for using a mobile device while driving even if you’re stopped in traffic or waiting at a red light.

Paul Miller’s law is named after Paul Miller Jr. who was killed in a distracted driving accident in 2010.

On June 2nd a group of our Sheriffs across the Commonwealth gathered at the PA state Capitol building in Harrisburg to meet with the legislators and strike up the conversation of providing clarity for Sheriffs! We could not be happier to stand beside these great men and women as they work toward Ward better serving their communities one step at a time!

Sheriffs already have authority and capability to expand their role in public safety. What’s missing is a clear, consistent legal definition.

From a policy perspective, creating clarity through codification would enhance the ability of our sheriffs to do what they need to do, when they need to do it — thus relieving strain on law enforcement and maximizing their overall impact in the community.

We will continue pushing for greater clarity from the legislature to enable our sheriffs to serve at their full potential.
