What can we learn from the ongoing conversation surrounding the reported 2024 sexual assault at Cornell University?

We’ve been receiving many requests from the media about this case and what we know about campus sexual assault, drug and alcohol facilitated sexual assault, the barriers and challenges survivors face reporting, the role of engaged bystanders and prevention efforts, and the responsibility of institutions new resource. These frequently asked questions and critical conversations inspired our new resource, Cornell Fraternity Sexual Assault Case: 5 Critical Points, which we developed in partnership with The Alliance, the statewide sexual violence coalition in New York.

We hope this resource offers information to support your community in having these important conversations. These conversations matter because understanding sexual violence is essential to preventing it, supporting survivors, and creating safer communities.

Enough with blaming survivors.
Enough with excusing sexual violence.
Enough with putting survivors on trial.

Our message is clear: survivors deserve dignity, support, and respect.
Institutions must be accountable for how they respond to sexual violence.

Enough is enough. We will keep demanding better.

How can we expect survivors to trust institutions when speaking up means risking their education, their career, their privacy, or their safety?

Every dismissed report and every excuse made for someone with power sends a message about whose well-being matters.

When survivors have to fight to be heard by the very institutions responsible for their safety, that failure deserves scrutiny.

Institutions must earn trust through their actions: take reports seriously, protect survivors from retaliation, provide meaningful support, and hold people accountable regardless of their status or influence.

At Respect Together, PCAR, and the NSVRC, we stand with survivors demanding better. The responsibility to earn trust belongs to the institution.

Happy !

While sexual violence is disproportionately perpetrated against the q***r community across the board, the Bi+ and trans communities are found to have the highest rates as subcommunities. We affirm the experiences of, and stand with, survivors of all sexual orientations and gender expressions everywhere. Today and everyday, we remember and celebrate all of our Bi+ allies and community members: past, present, and future.

In awareness, we encourage you to follow GLAAD as they host their annual campaign.
