Some of Arkansas’ best treasures aren’t on any map, they’re found in the stillness of the Natural State.

Tucked in the Ozark foothills since 1883, Hardy is a backroads gem where golden sunlight dances on the Spring River, and the historic downtown feels wonderfully frozen in time. Where two-lane roads wind through pure magic, and the sunsets stretch just a little bit longer.

No rush. No packed schedule. Just canoes drifting, cicadas humming, and crystal-clear water fed by Mammoth Springs.

Hardy reminds us: sometimes the best adventures happen when you roll the windows down, slow down, and stay awhile.

Turning the tide from what’s behind us to what’s ahead. At ARI, we’re betting on possibility!

We recently asked our board members, visionaries devoted to this region, “When you look 10 years ahead, how do you envision southeast Arkansas transformed?”

Their responses paint a shared horizon of stronger, more connected communities; main streets alive with commerce and culture; outdoor spaces that become destination experiences; economic opportunities flourishing in unexpected ways; and, perhaps most importantly, a region where young people choose to stay because they see their dreams taking shape right here.

ARI is celebrating ‘Main Street Memories’ and we're kicking off this journey in a place close to our hearts—Harrisburg, the birthplace of ARI.

Remember when Saturday nights meant gathering at the movie theatre? When Main Street buzzed with neighbors becoming friends, and friends becoming family?

The memories we cherish:
• Waddle's Drug Store, where prescriptions came with conversation and a milkshake
• The Modern News - a community anchor and home of the famed ‘Around Town’ column
• Bennett's, Dalton's, and Phillips, where walking through the door meant hearing your name called out in greeting
• Street dances that brought the whole town together

Sure, your parents and grandparents have stories about Main Street back in the day... but let's talk about what's happening RIGHT NOW:

Festival on the Ridge : Live music, food, and the whole community vibing together. If you know, you KNOW.

Gavin's : The name’s sake of one of our most beloved citizens has become a local destination.

The Poinsett County courthouse hitting different when you realize it's literally modeled after the state capital. Architectural design is on display right here in Harrisburg!

Crowley’s Ridge, the newfound playground for gravel cyclists and enthusiasts! And the trail goes directly through downtown Harrisburg!

Veterans Memorial Park : A powerful spot to reflect and honor our community's heroes

Who are the unsung heroes of your community?

These are the architects of tomorrow, working in the shadows of today.

But here's what we're learning: every community has these people. And their stories deserve to be told.

Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Memorial Day is not only the start of summer but also a powerful reminder of the courage, service, and selflessness of those who have protected our freedoms. Their sacrifices lay the foundation for the strong, resilient communities and vibrant economies we hold dear.
