Today, we celebrate YMCA Founder's Day! 🙌

On June 6, 1844, the first YMCA was founded in London with a simple yet powerful mission: to strengthen communities and help people reach their full potential.

In 1851, the first YMCA was established in the United States. Our very own Harrisburg Area YMCA holds a proud place in history as the 8th-oldest YMCA in the U.S. 🌍

Carrying this legacy forward, we continue to empower individuals and families through programs that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility for all. ❤️

Today, we celebrated the official ribbon-cutting of Y On Market, an exciting new facility that brings the mission of the Harrisburg Area YMCA to the heart of Downtown Harrisburg! ✂️❤️🥳

Located in Strawberry Square, Y On Market is a satellite workout facility that expands access to health and wellness in Downtown Harrisburg, providing a convenient space for community members to stay active, connected, and engaged.

We're proud to continue our commitment to strengthening the Harrisburg community and finding new ways to serve our members.

We're proud to celebrate West Shore Branch YMCA member and swim coach Jeannie Zappe, who is preparing to swim the English Channel for the second time this summer! 🏊

For the past 15 years, Jeanie has trained in the West Shore YMCA pool while sharing her love of swimming through coaching others.

Jeannie will attempt her second English Channel swim between July 7 and 12, depending on weather and tide conditions. Her dedication, discipline, and perseverance continue to inspire everyone around her.

We discussed the key topics of camper safety, standard protocol, and how to create an inclusive experience for everyone.

👏 Congratulations to Chad Krebs & Bruce Matthews from our Friendship Branch YMCA for receiving Citizen Support Awards from Lower Paxton Township last Thursday in recognition of their lifesaving actions that helped save a Friendship Branch YMCA member on 12/29/25.
