Today we began our monthly reading program at Steel-High Elementary’s 3rd grade classrooms. This is the service component of our literacy program following our donation of 600 books now in the school library. Thank you to today’s readers! We’ll be back again every month.

Literacy is a key area of focus for Rotary International worldwide. Reading is the gateway to learning, health, and economic opportunity. Read to the children in your community. It improves academic performance, concentration, critical thinking, socialization, and empathy.

Today, we officially announced our Rotary District 7390 grant project, bringing over 600 new books to the Steelton-Highspire School District elementary library. Literacy is a core focus of Rotary, and we are excited to double the circulation of nonfiction books to start a new school year! We also will begin a monthly Rotarians Reading in the Classroom program this fall in Steel-High's 3rd grade classrooms. We were joined today by Keystone Rotary club members, other Rotarians, Faculty, and Donors. This project has been a resounding success, thanks to the partnership of the school district, superintendent, Willie Slade, District Librarian Jennifer Feldser, and the faculty of this school. Welcome home to Pepper Loucas, our Rotary D7390 Youth Exchange outbound to Argentina for the 25-26 Rotary Year! Tonight Pepper shared her experience abroad with our club and many special guests visiting. Youth Exchange is such a powerful tool to build peace and understanding around the globe and we are proud of Pepper for serving as an ambassador of our Club, South Central PA and the United States. She had a fantastic year! Best wishes as you continue your studies at University.

Tonight the Harrisburg Keystone Rotary Club welcomed Rotary District 7390 District Governor Rebecca Zalit for her official club visit. We were particularly honored to be her first official visit of the Rotary International Year.

Rebecca’s message to us is to think bigger in the things we do to serve our community and the world and to keep pushing to do better than our best. A key part of that is inviting service minded people to learn more about Rotary and join us in service. I hope you’ll keep reading about the good work we are doing as Rotarians here in Central PA and around the world. And if you have the time or the ability, I hope you’ll consider working with us to serve others. Stay tuned for more ways you can help.
